August’s full moon in Aquarius is set to bring with it a stirring call for emotional freedom, personal rebellion, and deep internal reflection.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

The lunar event will be intensified by Aquarius’ ruling planet,Uranus, known for its unpredictable, electric and rebellious energy.

We can expect bottled-up feelings to surface, leading to overreactions and, in some cases, impulsive or inappropriate behaviour.

Aquarius is an air sign, often symbolised by the Water Bearer (someone pouring water from a jug).

This image reflects the Aquarian tendency to hold emotions internally, appearing detached while experiencing great emotional depth beneath the surface.

But Aquarians often internalise feelings until they can no longer be contained. So, during this full moon, emotional pressure may reach a tipping point.

This inner push-pull between logic and feeling could manifest as unpredictableemotional intensity – this is especially so for those with strong placements in Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio – the fixed signs most affected by this full moon’s energies.

The influence of Uranus adds layers of volatility and unpredictability, and literal and symbolic storms may follow, like electrical disruptions, lightning strikes, or sudden emotional flashpoints.

Expect the unexpected – both in your environment and your relationships. Sudden realisations or emotional outbursts could surface without warning.

Aquarians aren’t typically impulsive in matters of the heart, but this full moon may stir uncharacteristic intensity, particularly around romantic dynamics.

Aquarians usually prefer to build connections through shared interests and understanding. They’re more about the slow burn than instant attraction.

This lunar energy invites us to move beyond emotional suppression, embrace authenticity, and reclaim personal freedom. It’s a time to think clearly, feel deeply, and initiate meaningful change.

The traditional name for this full moon is the Sturgeon Moon – named for the abundance of sturgeon fish in North American waters.

It encourages emotional reflection and a return to ancestral roots. But, when combined with Aquarian rebellion, it urges us to challenge outdated emotional systems and create new ways of being.

This full moon is a chance to clear emotional clutter and make space for fresh perspectives. It’s a reminder that emotional intelligence and innovation can go hand in hand.

Cosmic Overlays: Perseids, the Divine Feminine and Leo’s Lion’s Gate

Though not the main focus, the Perseid Meteor Shower will peak between August 12th and 13th, just days after the full moon, adding extra intensity to this energetic period.

The Perseids bring a masculine energy that contrasts the full moon’s feminine pull. This energetic clash can stir tension in relationships, prompting power struggles or emotional flare-ups.

Spiritually, the Perseids also evoke ancient myth and modern meaning.

While they’re named after Perseus, the Greek hero, Medusa’s story is overlookedas a symbol of suppressed feminine power rising for acknowledgment and justice.

The Perseids are a visual reminder to reclaim what’s been silenced – to balance masculine force with feminine wisdom.

Adding to the energetic crescendo, the Lion’s Gate portal – a spiritually significant alignment involving the Sun in Leo and the star Sirius – opens on August 8th, just before the full moon.

This alignment is believed to enhance personal growth, inner strength and higher guidance.

And with Mercury retrograde until August 11th, care with communication and travel is needed, especially as emotions run high.

To make the most of this emotionally charged period:

  • Reflect and Release: Use this time to shed emotional baggage and clear worn-out emotional responses.
  • Embrace Change with Awareness: Let Aquarian energy inspire new behaviours – but take care not to act rashly.
  • Communicate Mindfully: With Mercury still in retrograde and cosmic tensions rising, choose words wisely and avoid impulsive responses.
  • Plan Ahead: Aquarians love to look to the future – channel this energy into long-term visioning or goal setting.

When to Watch the Sky

The Sturgeon Moonwill peak at 5.55pm AEST on August 9th, while the Perseids Meteor Shower peaks between August 12th – 13th. The shower will be visible under dark skies, even in Australia. Look to the northern horizon, especially just before dawn, for the best chance to witness the celestial show.
