Eating healthily just got a whole lot more interesting. Read on for the coolest veggies in town at the moment… and yes, there’s such a thing.

Kalette

Meet the teensy tiny vegetable that’s got a deep purple tinge like kale and the delicious nutty flavour of brussel sprouts. Throw this nutrient-rich veggie in stir-fries, salads or over a grill – it’s so versatile, you can eat it however you like.

Brocollini

I had always thought broccolini was a baby version of broccoli, but did you know it’s actually the love child of broccoli and Asian staple kai-lan? Originally developed in Japan, this delicious vegetable tastes its best when steamed or stir-fried with garlic.

Yuzu

Part mandarin and part papedas (a citrus fruit that’s usually used for landscaping!), this sour treat is mostly cultivated to make ponzu sauce, a tart dressing that works just as nicely as vinaigrette. It’s quite rare to see these in the supermarket, but you might be able to spot them in smaller Korean or Japanese grocery shops.

Pineberry

Just as the name suggests, this small fruit looks like a white strawberry, but tastes just like a pineapple. It’s hugely popular in Europe and the US, but they’ve become a rare delight as they’re grown in small-scale farms. Fingers crossed we’ll see these land down under soon.
