Dayana Brooke created The Sustainable Traveller with one simple idea – changing the way all of us travel and encouraging ecotourism, so that we make a better impact on our environment, our lives, and our planet.

After over 17 years of experience booking worldwide travel, Dayana felt the need to book travel differently. More importantly, as a committed vegetarian (she’s been vegetarian for 18 years and is now almost completely vegan), she felt the need to travel differently, and to help and encourage others to travel differently too.

From being a guest on a podcast highlighting amazing new businesses and being referred to as a niche expert on sustainable travel, to being the driving force that got The Sustainable Traveller being listed as an excellent source for sustainable hotels, Dayana Brooke is literally The Sustainable Traveller!

Of course, ecotourism or sustainable travel goes beyond just saying no to plastic. It could involve any of the following, or more:

  • Choosing direct flights to get to your destination.
  • Travelling by train instead of air travel.
  • Packing less luggage.
  • Hiring a ‘green’ car which is electric or one that uses biofuel.
  • Choosing to stay at hotels and go on cruises that have a sustainability policy in place and are energy efficient, with efforts that include green walls, edible gardens, beehives, recycling programs, water reductions, paperless check-in and check-out etc. Or even simply staying at places that encourage you to reuse your linen and towels when you travel.

“There are so many amazing sustainable and eco-travel options for you to experience and I have made it easy for you to search and book all sustainable travel options on one website”, says Dayana. “Being a sustainable traveller, is your way of giving back to nature, the environment, people, wildlife and cultures. Ultimately we are all responsible for the planet we call home”.

Along with travelling sustainably, Dayana is also encouraging women to travel more (and maybe even together!), to get out of their comfort zones and explore offbeat places in new ways.

In Dayana’s own words – “The time is now. The planet needs us to change the way we travel to be sustainable”.
