Nestled neatly on the corner of Flinders and Queen Streets, the Vibe Hotel Melbourne is both an architectural beauty that sleekly rises over the Yarra and an antidote to the gritty urban streets beneath it – giving guests a front-row seat to Melbourne’s ever-changing cityscape. But, the true charm of Vibe isn’t just its dramatic design – it’s the journey through its levels, each one offering its own slice of the magic of the cultural capital of Australia

Vibe Hotel Melbourne

The Vibe Hotel story begins at ground level, where the foyer makes a striking first impression. The space is anchored by floor-to-ceiling glass that floods the lobby with light, while bouncing off polished metal accents and raw finishes. It’s both bold and inviting – a rare balance that suits a city like Melbourne, which thrives on its mix of grit and glamour. The staff, warm without being overbearing, keep the energy as polished as the interiors. They’ll happily point you toward the nearest laneway cafe, the best tram route for the MCG, or their own in-house treasure: One Queen Restaurant. Here, this all-day dining spot comes into its own in the morning with a generous buffet breakfast that fuels early risers and late-night wanderers alike. Plates brim with fresh fruit, hot pastries, and eggs made every which way –  a comforting counterpoint to the city’s caffeine-fuelled buzz.

A quick lift ride to the first floor introduces guests to one of the hotel’s most underrated luxuries: the heated indoor swimming pool. In a city famous for its unpredictable weather (four seasons in one day, as locals say), there’s something deliciously indulgent about diving into toasty blue water while the wind whips outside. Lined with lush greenery on one side and cosy loungers on the other, the pool feels like an urban hideaway designed for slow mornings and post-sightseeing resets. Additionally, a well-equipped gym sits alongside for those who prefer dumbbells to dog-paddling.

Of course, most guests come here for the rooms – and they don’t disappoint. Spread across 22 floors, the 201 rooms offer a calm retreat from the city below. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sprawling views that stretch from the spires of Flinders Street Station to the hazy Dandenong Ranges in the distance. Inside, the mood is understated: muted tones, natural fibres, and thoughtful details that make staying in just as tempting as heading out. Each room is stocked with fluffy towels, O&M toiletries, and – most importantly for style-savvy travellers – a Dyson hairdryer. The minibar deserves its own mention, too: along with the usual suspects, you’ll find Curatif Espresso Martinis, which feel like a wink to Melbourne’s reputation as the world’s coffee capital.

But the real pinnacle of a stay at Vibe Melbourne comes at the top: level 22, home to Fleet Rooftop Bar. Claiming the crown as Flinders Street’s highest rooftop, Fleet is the kind of venue where evenings stretch effortlessly into nights. The space itself is chic yet unpretentious, with sweeping glass walls that frame the skyline in cinematic fashion. As the sun sinks and the city lights flicker to life, the bar hums with after-work chatter, clinking glasses, and the occasional gasp as yet another fiery sunset takes centre stage.

Executive Chef Ajosh Abraham Thomas delivers a menu that’s creative and cool. Think half-shell scallops slicked with nduja butter, truffle mac and cheese croquettes and grilled lamb skewers with almond cream. Similarly, the drinks list tempts with multiple Negroni riffs and seasonal spritzes. It’s no wonder Fleet is fast becoming one of Melbourne’s most sought-after sunset destinations.

What ties it all together is location. Step outside and Melbourne is at your feet: Federation Square, Southbank’s glittering promenade, the East End theatres, and the city’s famed laneways are all just a short stroll away. For sport lovers, the MCG is a quick tram ride; for art lovers, the NGV is within walking distance. And for those who prefer to simply watch the city unfold, The Vibe gives you front-row seats without ever leaving your room. (Or rooftop bar!)

From the welcoming foyer to the steamy pool, the skyline-soaked suites to the rooftop bar in the clouds, Vibe Hotel Melbourne isn’t just a place to rest your head. It’s a vertical adventure through the best of Melbourne, layer by layer. Whether you’re here for business, a cheeky staycation, or just to sip a spritz while watching the sun sink behind the city, Vibe makes sure you’re living the Melbourne lifestyle – at every level. Literally!
