You may have thought you’d been diligently deleting your search history this year, but Google knows all!
The Internet giant has just released its ‘Year in Search’ lists to reveal what Australians laughed at, wondered about and cried over most this year.
It was the year we ‘caught ‘em all,’ grasped extraordinary political change, said goodbye to some greats – and made Harambe the gorilla a hero.
From breaking news, to breaking Olympic records, and the UK’s break-up with Europe – the events of this year affected all of us in different ways.
We turned to Search in the happy and hard moments to get the details, see the bigger picture and find our way forward.
Romance was in the air this year, with Prince Harry’s new flame Meghan Markle, one of our top searches.
Not all romances enjoyed a happy ending in 2016 however, with the shock breakup of Hollywood golden couple, Brad and Ange, which left us all heartbroken.
Real or fake, we still can’t decide, but either way Tom Hiddleston’s ill-fated participation in the couple formerly known as Hiddleswift was also not so easily forgotten.
This year also spawned a cult of lounge-room investigators, as Steven Avery’s plight in Making a Murderer had us all searching for answers. The much-hyped OJ Simpson telemovie also had us hooked when it screened earlier this year.
It wasn’t all murder and chill (thanks Netflix), with homegrown telemovies Brock and Molly prompting many Aussies to revisit the legacies of Peter Brock and Molly Meldrum.
