One in every 20 Aussie kids are affected by a genetic disease or birth defect. That’s one in every classroom. Let’s help change that figure by donning our denim and supporting Jeans for Genes Day on August 5, 2016.
Jeans for Genes raise much needed funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), who work continuously to improve the lives of children across Australia. It’s team of scientists are motivated to change the above classroom statistic and commit to ongoing research about the fundamental processes of life. However, the can’t do it on their own. They need our support.

This year, I have taken on the role as ‘Chief Genie’ for Jeans for Genes Day. My aim is to help these scientists make a difference in families’ lives and I want Aussies to join me. I’ll be helping onboard as many fundraising Genies as possible and, of course, I dare everyone to don as much denim as they can Jeans for Genes Day.

As a survivor of breast cancer and now a mother to my beautiful daughter Annabelle, this campaign is particularly important to me. I experienced first hand the traumatic ordeal of going through such a sickness and saw the effects it has on the people around you. I also have friends who have children impacted by genetic disease, so this is a charity close to my heart.

I will also be showing my support through attendance at the Jeans for Genes Excellence Ball on June 24, 2016. The red carpet fundraising event which will be themed around inspirational Aussies and I’ll be luck enough to host a Q&A with four-time Paralympic gold medallist, Ellie Cole as part of the evening. I can’t wait to hear her goals for Rio.

There as so many ways you can make a difference too. You can sign up to be a Genie at Jeansforgenes.org.au or make one-off donations through the website. Every dollar you raise or donate will help build the cornerstones for tomorrow’s cures and treatments – for the benefit of children everywhere.

In exciting news, Jeans for Genes has launched its ‘text to donate’ function this year! Aussies can text ‘jeans’ to 1997 6484 and $5 will be sent to the charity and added to their phone bill. Simple as that!

This year is going to be huge – I want to see all of your denim outfits, so be sure to share them using  #JeansForGenesAU

The Carousel would like to thank JeansForGenes ambassador for this story.
