More than one third of us admit to loving a thread of adventure on trips away, according to Wotif.com. Whether it’s riding a roller coaster, jet boating or going on a helicopter ride – we’ve compiled the five most popular adventure activities ticked off by Aussies on holiday.

The Northern Territory offers a host of activities for any adventure junkie, Wotif.com has released a list of the NT experiences that will get your inner adventurer excited.

Get blown away

More than 15% of Aussies have been hot air ballooning.  Going on an hour hot air balloon ride is an exhilarating way to see the sandy red landscape of Alice Springs and the MacDonnell Ranges.

Make it snappy

Surprisingly more Aussies have fed a crocodile than gone paragliding or hot air ballooning, with 21% saying they’ve ticked this off on holiday. Take a tour and get close to the crocs in Darwin, where you can feed and hold these creatures.  To really get the adrenaline pumping, you can get even closer and swim with the crocs – Darwin is the only city in the world where this is possible.

Be a high flyer

If you have a thrill for heights like the 41% of Aussies who have gone on a helicopter ride, then take an air tour of the outback. Going on a helicopter ride is one of the best ways to explore some of the NT’s best valleys, waterfalls, rivers and forests in the Kakadu National Park.

Get climbing

Just over 20% of Aussies have gone rock climbing on holiday and travellers keen to tick this off their list should visit The Rock Centre in Darwin. Here travellers can clamber up the insides of an old World War II oil tank surrounded by tropical bushland.

Free falling

No need to crane your neck to see Uluru, enjoy 360 degree views by skydiving your way down. More Aussies have experienced croc feeding than sky diving on holiday with only 8.6% deciding to take the plunge.
