From football fests to tennis tournaments, July is a big month for competitive sports. But, if you’re not into the Olympics. Or just equally interested in celebrating food, flowers, and the fabulous locals who bring them to life, then you’ll want to meet the Sydney Markets Fresh Awards Winners, who recently revealed themselves at Sydney’s ICC on July 12th. Alongside MC Chris Bath this year’s judging panel was selected for their commitment to recognising NSW and ACT’s best produce people. And, included infectiously energetic pastry chef Anna Polyviou, journalist Edwina Bartholomew, culinary queen Lyndey Milan OAM and Manel Ahmad, a banker by day and a passionate food blogger and caterer by night. Oh, and The Carousel’s own founder and Editor in Chief Robyn Foyster who drew on her extensive career expertise to offer invaluable insights into media and consumer trends during the judging process.
Putting fresh food and flowers first

Among the notable categories and 22 winners (out of an incredible 89 finalists) were Lemdell for Wholesaler of the Year and D Fresh Produce for Produce Grower of the Year. Both showcasing the breadth of talent and innovation within the markets. Similarly, East Coast Wildflowers and Parisi stood out in their respective categories of Flower Grower of the Year and Providore of the Year, reflecting the vibrant diversity of offerings at Sydney Markets.

Green (grocer) is the new black
The Greengrocer Awards category further spotlighted the accomplishments of the individuals and organisations who make it easy for Sydney siders to stock up on their five-a-day. As well as the Greengrocer of the Year Award (which went to Fruitezy Marketplace – Maroubra), Fita Fruita from Turramurra clinched Best Small Business in the Greengrocer category, while Minchinbury Fruit Market in Minchinbury triumphed in the Best Medium Business category. The awards also celebrated larger enterprises like Parisi’s Food Hall in Rose Bay and Martelli’s Fruit Market in Cherrybrook, emphasising the market’s ability to cater to businesses of all sizes.
In full bloom
Floristry was also not forgotten. As Pearsons Florist in Bondi Junction won for Retail Presentation and Bella Floral Boutique in Morisset received recognition for Service Excellence. These awards highlighted the creativity and dedication of florists in enhancing customer experience through visually stunning displays and exceptional service.

The real People’s Choice Awards
Finally, the Paddy’s People’s Choice Awards added another layer of excitement, with winners like Sydney Uggs and Mustafa Allazze Fruit & Vegetables from Haymarket and Yep Lum & Co from Flemington, all showcasing the community’s appreciation for outstanding retail and fresh produce offerings.
Bradley Latham, CEO of Sydney Markets, underscored the importance of these awards in acknowledging the pivotal role played by market participants in their local communities. “The Fresh Award contenders are the backbone of our communities, dedicated to delivering exceptional service to their customers,” Brad remarked. He also highlighted the growth of the awards over the years, welcoming new faces and reaffirming Sydney Markets’ commitment to honouring excellence.
