When it comes to Emmy Award fashion trends, not every single look from Hollywood translates quite as easy to suburban Sydney … However, we definitely think taking inspo from these look and combining them with a touch of styling can transform your weekend coffee run into an award-winning moment. No stylist required.

1. Red frocks on the red carpet are always a good idea

Are you likely to ever walk a red carpet in your life? No. Do you have the budget to invest in a Zuhair Murad, Louis Vuitton or Oscar De La Renta frock a la  Sara Foster, Selena Gomez or Sydney Sweeney respectively? Probably also no. However, can you don a red lip or pair your favourite jeans with a pointy red heel? Absolutely!

2. If you’re not ready to paint the town red … think pink

If you’re not quite brave enough to embrace your inner Scarlett women, then a dress that’s pretty in pink makes an excellent plan b. You don’t have to go the full fuschia or organza approach either. A rose coloured cami looks gorgeous with jeans for Spring.

3. Splits are sexy. Period

Whether you opt for a thigh high version like Shanina Shaik in Carolina Herrera, a softer take like Rita Ora or a swishy skirt inspired by Jenna Ortega, putting a little leg on show is almost always a good look. To try the trend without accidentally flashing the post man, practice walking before you pay! And, pair them with a fitted tee, a leather jacket and chunky sneakers for a more modest vibe.

4. … But so is strapless, if your style is a little more subtle

Stripes, silver or sunflower yellow (thank you for the inspiration Ms Scarlett Johansson), a decolletage-loving dress is not one we’d give the cold shoulder to …No rules here. From a strap-free bikini to a summery sundress, this one is practically fail safe!

5. A cut(out) above the rest

Hollywood’s serving cut-outs, but you don’t need a stylist to make the, err … cut. Slip into a ribbed dress with a subtle waist peek, or a cut-out knit top under your favourite denim jacket and throw on sneakers to keep it more coffee run than catwalk.

6. If in doubt … sparkle it out

Going glam with a full length gown that’s all about the sequin is fool proof. Or, if you’re social life leans more into Friday drinks and less the “I want to thank my second grade teacher” acceptance speech route, swap your blazer for a crystal-encrusted bolero for the easiest am to pm transition.

7. Cate Blanchett can do no wrong

Finally, yes. A little black dress will never let you down. But, if you want to live a little make like Ms Blanchett and invest in the LBJ Little balck Jumpsuit. All of the fab of it’s frocky friend. Less chance of rocking up a wedding and realising the bride’s second cousin in wearing the exact.same.thing!
