Spumante was a super popular pour in many Aussie households throughout the 1970s and 1980’s. It never really went away, but for a while, it did lose the spotlight to its sparkling sister Prosecco, and over the years other varieties of wine, such as Chardonnay in the 1990’s and Sauvignon Blanc in the 2000’s.

The Renaissance Of Spumante

Now, it’s 2021 and the Italian drop is trending again, thanks to the arrival of Bosca Asti Spumante on Aussie shores, and an increased interest in viniculture thanks to lockdowns. The vibrant drop has more than proved itself to be elegant, delicious and definitely celebration worthy. While we may not have much to celebrate of late, even a ZOOM connection with loved ones could be a reason to raise a glass. It certainly pays to have some bubbles when you celebrate even the small things, such as connecting with friends and loved ones in anyway that we can.

An Italian beauty

As an authentic product of the the gentle hillsides of Piemonte in Italy,  originates from white Moscato di Canelli grapes, ripened in the hot summer sun. The grapes are harvested almost exclusively by hand, delicately pressed and carefully turned into wine only as needed, in order to maintain the  unmistakable flavour of this unique grape intact in the wine.

Its taste

Pure and unforgettable, this wine offers a true taste of the richness of the Piemonte region, and boasts the Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG). Bosca Asti Spumante ticks all the boxes, really. At just $19 a bottle (depending on your vendor), it is fresh and fruity with a harmonious sweetness, fizzy with bubbles and stimulated by light notes of peach, almond and citrus. Pair it back with Matt Moran’s salad of Cos, Asparagus and Soft Egg, or his Lobster, Radish and Kombu Butter, each of which are light, simple to make and go perfectly with the light, fresh effervescence of Bosca Asti Spumante. For something sweeter, you can match it back with Italian Mama’s Tiramisu and enjoy a most decadent dessert!
