Let’s go back to the 50s for a second. Back when people would go to the drive-in theatres with their popcorn and their friends, without a care in the world. American Express are trying to recapture that feeling with the return of their open-air cinema in Pyrmont, Sydney.

The weather’s finally starting to heat up. The days are longer, and the nights are warmer. So it’s the perfect time for Sydneysiders to make the most of these spring nights and stay outdoors, accompanied by great food and even greater movies.

In support of Australian cinema, and in celebration of Michelle Payne, the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup, there will also be a screening of the inspirational Ride Like a Girl on the 28th of November.

For the film fanatics, it is not only new movies that will be shown, but also classics like Clueless, Mean Girls, and 10 Things I Hate About You and more.

On top of the entertainment, there will be food and drink — not to worry. A popular Canberra-based food truck, Mr Papa, will be heading down to Sydney to provide tasty Peruvian treats including loaded fries, burgers and finger food. And thanks to American Express’ national partners, Geisen Wines, 4Pines, Pimms and Enjoy Water; moviegoers will have a selection of wines, beers and other beverages at their disposal. For the couples, there’s Wine Wednesdays, where you’ll be able to sample eight different Giesen Wines to find the perfect one to match a selection of rom-coms.

On the weekends there will be live music and DJ performances before the movie screenings.

If you’re an American Express Card Member, you’ll be given a bean bag and can relax with a cushion and a blanket (as well as fresh popcorn, treats and wine). Card Members will also benefit from 15% off of tickets, blanket hire and the American Express Garden where you can sit back with drinks before the screening.
