Filming is now underway on Star Wars: Episode V111 in London and Disney has just released this first sneak peek video below of what to expect.
Understandably, they’re not giving too much away this far out from the film’s scheduled release in December 2017, but here’s what we do know so far.
Marquee names Benicio Del Toro (Sicario) and Laura Dern (Wild), below, have joined the cast, although details of their characters are not immediately available.
They will be joined by many of the cast members in Force, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o, according to the movie’s website.
But even Luke Skywalker is being kept in the dark over his role, judging by the Tweet below.
Kelly Marie Tran, whom Disney described as a “talented newcomer,” is also joining the film.
Kelly, below, has no major films under her belt and little digital footprint.
She’s a member of an Upright Citizens Brigade comedy group in Los Angeles, and appeared in two episodes of About a Boy an NBC show that ended in 2015. She has starred in a few videos on the Funny or Die website.
One thing is for sure, her life is about to change forever.
Gwendolyn Christie’s Captain Phasma will take on more importance as the trilogy moves forward.
“She’s an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word,” LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy tells the Los Angeles Times.
Fans can also expect a “darker” tone to the movie, now it’s in the hands of writer/director Rian Johnson of Looper fame.
“Rian Johnson is a friend of mine — he’s going to make some weird thing,” Force Awakens’ co-writer Lawrence Kasdan promises the Los Angeles Times.
“If you’ve seen Rian’s work, you know it’s not going be like anything that’s ever been in Star Wars. ”
