MAFS, Mindful Drinking and Making a Difference, According to Jules Robinson
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In recent years, the movement toward mindful drinking has gained remarkable momentum. Far from being just another fleeting trend, much like intuitive eating, it signals a significant cultural shift.

The Mindful Drinking movement is not about abstinence; it’s about making conscious choices around alcohol that align with personal wellbeing, values, and social goals. Whether it’s cutting back, choosing alcohol-free alternatives, or redefining what it means to celebrate, mindful drinking is about taking control of your habits and enjoying life’s moments more fully.

What is mindful drinking?

At its core, mindful drinking is about being intentional. It’s asking yourself questions like: Why am I drinking? How will it make me feel tomorrow? Am I drinking because I enjoy it, or out of habit? By pausing to consider these factors, people can make decisions that prioritise how they want to feel both in the moment and after.

This practice isn’t just for those avoiding alcohol entirely; it resonates with anyone seeking balance. For some, it’s swapping a nightly glass of wine for a non-alcoholic alternative. For others, it’s setting boundaries like drinking only on weekends or choosing lower-alcohol options.

The benefits of mindful drinking

1. Improved Physical Health. Reducing alcohol intake can lower the risk of heart disease, improve liver function, and support better sleep patterns. Many people report feeling more energized and focused when they drink less.

2. Enhanced Mental Clarity. Alcohol often clouds judgment and contributes to feelings of guilt or regret. Mindful drinking fosters clearer thinking and a more positive mindset.

3. Stronger Social Connections. Without alcohol, conversations often feel more genuine, and moments become more memorable. It’s easier to stay present and truly connect with others.

4. Financial Savings: Finally, cutting back on alcohol can lead to noticeable savings, especially with the rising cost of premium drinks.

A growing movement

The mindful drinking trend is sweeping across the globe, with alcohol-free bars, zero-proof spirits, and sober-curious communities popping up everywhere. Social media has played a significant role in normalising this shift, with influencers and celebrities embracing and promoting alcohol-free lifestyles.

One brand making mindful drinking not just accessible but also exciting is Seadrift Distillery, which has teamed up with MAFS alumni Jules Robinson to create Seadrift By Jules Positivo. This alcohol-free aperitif comes in two vibrant flavours – Wild Hibiscus and Orange – and captures the carefree, celebratory spirit of Summer.

But Positivo isn’t just about positively delicious sips – sans alcohol. It’s also about fostering meaningful connections and making an impact. A portion of every bottle sold supports the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, which helps women facing homelessness. Jules, who has made wellness and positivity cornerstones of her personal brand, hopes this collaboration will spark conversations around important social issues while encouraging people to reflect on their drinking habits. To further support the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, you can also enter a raffle to win Jules Robinson’s original Married at First Sight wedding dress. Tickets start at $10 and are available at www.nbws.org.au.
