Who doesn’t love Rosé? With spring just around the corner, it’s time to rethink our drinks and begin sipping this divine pink drop again.

The Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2022 were announced at Melbourne’s iconic restaurant, The Stokehouse in St Kilda on August 12, and The Carousel was given the exclusive intel on the winner in the Rosé category.

The Awards is a highlight of the wine industry and after what can only be described as a challenging year, the night was a unifying celebration.

And the Rosé winner is …

The 2022 Rosé of the Year varietal winner is the 2020 La Prova Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo Rosato, which scored 95 points from the Halliday Wine Companion tasting panel. The wine, which was fermented half in old white oak (for texture) and half into tank (for vibrancy), has a bright, fragrant and crunchy style. Halliday Wine Companion tasting panellist Tony Love describes the Rosé as “leaving the palate thirsty for more…and more”.

Rosé For Days

While we could easily wind up every afternoon with a glass of this delicious vegan friendly drop, it’s actually not available until October 2021. However, it will be worth the wait. And at only $26, it’s a really affordable yet luxury spend. We think it would pair perfectly with this Thai Beef Power Bowl or with this Delicious Chicken Salad With Goat’s Curd, Hazelnuts And Honey. Never fear for vegans and vegetarians. Try sipping it with this Vegan Salt and Pepper Kalamari recipe!

While You’re Waiting …

Of course, you’ll need something to keep you going until October, so why not sample some of the vineyard’s other sips, such as Monaciello Aglianco 2015. Sweetly named for the ‘little monk’, a fairy tale character in Naples who is blamed for all the strange little occurrences in your house, like hiding your glasses, or your keys and so on, it is grown and made in Kersbrook, a warm Northern sub-region of the Adelaide Hills. Boasting a ferrous, dark, brambly and graphitey rustic charm, it will get you through the remaining cooler months of this year (especially if you’re in lockdown), but is best sipped with a hearty meal, as  the tannins are profound. Bonus? It’s also vegan friendly!
