The first full action packed day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia kicked off in fashionable style with shows from some of Australia’s biggest industry names including Bec & Bridge, Tome, Aje and By Johnny.

Tome’s first runway on Australian soil was a mixture of flowy, feminine skirts juxtapositioned with structured man-style tailoring. Burgundies, rich blues and pale pinks interrupted the otherwise-neutral colour palette, with the standout piece being a belted tartan dress with oversized lapels.

Bec & Bridge took us on a journey from the Amazonian jungle to the spice markets of Morocco. Python-printed gladiator heels accentuated the shorter hemlines seen in this collection, and their signature cutout shapes appeared on skirts, dresses and their first foray into swimwear.

Johnny Schembri’s robotic runway show combined his love of geometric patterns with sleek, feminine silhouettes. It was a collection that celebrated the female form, from figure-hugging dresses and flouncy A-line skirts to daring splits that allowed the legs to do all the talking.

Aje partnered up with well-known wine brand Tempus Two bringing beautiful natural fibres and tonal basics to the runway in a glamourous event. Parings of linen and leather took a tougher edge while clever combinations of lace, layering, length and prints upped the ante on the Aussie duo’s design palettes.
