Given her status as the Matilda’s best goal keeper, Mackenzie Arnold knows a thing or two about keeping fit. Unfortunately, however, the same can not be said for the majority of Australians. In fact, despite our sunburnt country’s reputation as an active and health-conscious nation, according to recent findings by Youfoodz many Aussies find themselves abandoning their lifestyle goals within just one month. And, with improving physical and mental health ranking as the top two personal goals for Australians, this trend poses a significant risk to the nation’s wellbeing.

The Carousel caught up with the Paris Olympic-bound football star (and the chief goal keeper of the meal delivery services company) and got her to spill her top tips to assist individuals in not only setting but also maintaining their health and lifestyle goals, and overcoming this one-month hurdle.

1. No one makes its to the Olympics in a day

Mackenzie advises against setting massive, lofty goals that may lead to frustration and eventual abandonment. Instead, she suggests starting with smaller, more achievable goals, whether they’re daily, weekly or monthly. By focusing on incremental progress, individuals can build momentum and stay motivated to continue.

2. Save time. Save goals

Consistency is key to forming habits, but it can be challenging when life gets busy. Mackenzie recommends making small changes to daily routines to save time and increase efficiency. Ready-made meals, like those from Youfoodz, can be a time-saving solution, especially for individuals with hectic schedules.

3. Find your team

Staying accountable is crucial for goal achievement, and Mackenzie emphasises the importance of finding a support network. Whether it’s friends, family, or colleagues, sharing goals with others can provide motivation and encouragement. As a professional athlete, Mackenzie values the support of her teams, both with the Matildas and at West Ham, as they work towards collective and individual goals.

4. More challenges, less opportunities

Overcoming setbacks is an inevitable part of pursuing goals. Mackenzie shares personal experiences of facing challenges, such as communication difficulties due to hearing issues and disappointment from not making the Tokyo Olympics squad. Despite these obstacles, she highlights the importance of resilience and perseverance in moving forward.

5. Remember they’re goals … not chores!

Finally, Mackenzie reminds individuals to approach their goals with passion and enjoyment. While the journey may have its challenges, it’s essential to find joy in the process, not just the end result. By maintaining a positive mindset and embracing the journey, individuals can stay motivated and committed to their health and lifestyle goals.
