She may have been Posh in a previous incarnation, but Victoria Bekham’s letter for TIME, ‘It Is Important That Our Children Understand Humility’, sends a strong message to her mini clan about her humble beginnings.

“Being in a position where they live such a privileged life, it is important that our children understand humility, that they appreciate how their parents have worked very hard to create this life for the family and that they, too, have a responsibility to work hard, be respectful and never, ever take anything for granted.

My mother and father always encouraged me and my siblings, to have ambitions, and I hope that I can do the same with my children. I hope that I, together with their father, inspire them to dream big and be the best version of themselves that they can be.”

Victoria also acknowledged the constant struggle working mum’s experience finding balance and juggling career with motherhood and guilt.

“Like so many working mothers all over the world, I feel the constant struggle to be the best mother I can, whilst setting a good example to my children to work hard. I travel for work when it’s necessary, and I miss them all the time when I am away. But they hide notes in my suitcase, which I love to find when unpacking, and I always bring photographs of all the family and put them by my bed so they are the first thing I see when I wake up and the last thing I see when I go to sleep. I love to hear their voices on the phone and seeing their faces—thank goodness for FaceTime. That sense of feeling connected makes being apart that little bit easier.”

Tina Knowles Lawson, Mum to Beyoncé, Solange, Kelly and Angie

We know mums as pillars of strength, bottomless suppliers of love and support, and usually, unbreakable. So it was moving for Tina Knowles to acknowledge the strength and support her daughters have given her in times of need in her open letter ‘You Have Been Such a Blessing to Me’.

“I gave birth to two of you, but I have four incredible daughters. Writing this brought to mind all the ways you guys have been such a blessing to me.

When I’m feeling sad or not-so-cute or maybe a little sorry for myself, and you all include me in your group chat and tell me how hot I still look or how cool I am. Maybe you send me a crazy YouTube video. What actually works best is a cute photo of my grandchildren.”

Tina also noted her divorce, and how supportive the girls were in her time of need.

“I remember slumber parties after my divorce, when we watched old movies and ate a lot of ice cream. I felt so loved and supported. The roles were reversed, and it was ME who needed nurturing.

I remember my first date when every one of you weighed in on what I should wear.

The obvious things about all of you are apparent. You are all strong, beautiful, intelligent and smart businesswomen. You are so much more than that. You are all kind, generous and you treat people well. You are all amazing mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends. All of you have total self-respect.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, Mum to Apple and Moses

Gwyneth didn’t quite write an open letter to her children, Apple, 10 and Moses, 9, but she did post the Mother’s Day letter Moses wrote for her on her Instagram account, which has 919k followers.
