The world is truly feeling the full effects of the ongoing Coronavirus. From fights in supermarkets over the last pack of toilet paper to barren streets across usually busy cities in light of self-isolation and lockdown laws. Everyone is in panic mode as reports continue to worsen. And although there’s not a whole lot we can do in self-isolation, there are some do’s and don’ts to abide by during this stressful period.

Pharmacist and Founder of QED Skincare, Shoshana Eisner shares with us her top tips on how to handle the pandemic in the best way possible.

Washing your hands with just water isn’t actually doing anything for you. If you want to really keep your hands clean, make sure to use hand wash.

Sharing hand towels

Make sure that you’re using a different hand towel from other people to ensure that there’s absolutely no chance of spreading the Coronavirus. You may have a good handwashing routine, but how can you be sure that everyone else does?

Not washing your hands before you eat

washing hands, hygiene

Now, more than ever, is the perfect time to start making this a habit. Before you eat a meal where you potentially will be touching the food that is in your mouth, rinse your hands with water and soap.

Dos

Washing your hands regularly (obviously)

Yes, this is the most obvious, but making it a habit and using a good technique will offer you the protection you need from Coronavirus transmission.

Use low-foaming / sensitive skin hand wash

Keep your hands clean and hydrated at the same time. Shoshana Eisner recommends using her QED Hand Wash which she says is “super rich in Cucumber Oil and is a NATURAL antibacterial with anti-inflammatory benefits together with promoting cell regeneration. It also contains a complex blend of natural oils for deep hydration & is 100% soap-free making it ideal for dry skin.”

Moisturise your hands

The more you wash your hands, the more potential it has to crack the skin’s surface, so in order to avoid that, moisturising your hands is the way to go.

Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds

Thirty seconds is said to be the perfect amount of time, just like 2 minutes is the rule of thumb for brushing your teeth. While you wash your hands, sing the Happy Birthday song twice and that’ll be enough.

Four steps to properly washing your hands

  1. Wet your hands with water & apply enough hand wash to cover your hands
  2. Rub your hands together and clean in between your fingers
  3. Rinse your hands thoroughly with water
  4. Dry your hands completely with a disposable or clean towel

With the Coronavirus going around, you can never be too safe. Take the time to wash your hands on a consistent basis and avoid contact with objects that other people may have touched.
