Halloween is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with these gruesome, no-bake “jelly bombs”.

We used green jelly to create disgusting green slime “guts” inside these spiders, making them a fun and easy Halloween treat with a revoltingly delicious surprise inside.

How To Recreate These Spiders

What you need to get started:

  • Silicone cake pop mould – a round chocolate mould or ice cube tray will also work
  • Scissors
  • Baking / wax paper
  • Scissors
  • Spoon
  • Clean tissues
  • Toothpick
  • Jelly / Jello (green or red is best)
  • Condensed milk
  • Maltesers, whoppers or any round brown or black candies
  • Red non pariel sprinkles
  • Black liquorice straps
  • Melted black candy melts, or dark chocolate
  • Optional – I added some detail to my spiders with red candy melts to make the deadly ‘red back’ spiders

See below for the comprehensive video tutorial on how to made Spider Jelly Bombs…

METHOD

Step 1: Make up your green jelly with only half the recommended amount of boiling water. Once the crystals have dissolved, stir in 3 ice cubes to rapidly cool the mix and stir through 2 tablespoons of condensed milk to make an opaque green. Set aside.

Step 2: Take some melted black candy melts, or melted dark chocolate and place half a teaspoon into each of your cake pop rounds, using the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate evenly up the sides. Refrigerate till set

Step 3: Repeat step 2 so you have 2 thin coats of chocolate in each of your cake pop rounds

Step 4: Once set, pop the chocolate half-spheres out of the mold, and then rest them gently back in their holes.

Step 5: Fill each chocolate half-sphere approximately 2/3 full with the green jelly mixture and refrigerate until fully set.

Step 6: Once set, dip the edge of one half-sphere into the melted chocolate and use this to ‘glue’ two half-spheres together, using your finger to neaten off the seam. You should now have a jelly filled sphere.

Step 7: Cut your licorice strap into approx. 2″ lengths and cut these strips to for the spiders legs. Cut 2 tiny triangles to form fangs

Step 8: Dip a small section of a Malteser into the melted chocolate, and sprinkle over some red sprinkles to form a little cluster of red ‘eyes’. With a toothpick, apply 2 tiny dots of melted chocolate and use this to glue on the fangs

Step 9: Place a teaspoon of melted chocolate on some baking paper and sit the jello filled sphere towards the back of the chocolate and the little malteser head in the front.

Step 10: Position your spiders legs either side of the sphere with a rolled tissue under each side to keep the legs upright while they dry.

When set, these should be stored in the fridge until just prior to serving. They can be left at room temperature for approx. 6 hours.

Happy Halloween!
