I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Soy Sauce and Chili Oil Ice Cream!

This Lunar New Year, Gelato Messina has teamed up with iconic Asian food brand Lee Kum Kee to create a range of limited edition, creative, and quirky flavours. It’s anything but vanilla!

Here’s the scoop…
Launching just in time for the Lunar New Year, the Limited Edition Gelato Messina and Lee Kum Kee collaboration blends the best sweet and savoury bits of each brand. But, goes way beyond a basic fried ice cream that you’d find at your local Chinese takeaway restaurant.

Instead, these new creations fuse iconic condiments of the world’s biggest oyster sauce manufacturers with one of Australia’s most popular Summer treats. And – before you have a complete meltdown – somehow manage to make it work.

Here’s how…

Soy Sauce Gelato: Soy, soy good!
This creation is a silky, smooth caramel gelato, rich with an unexpected twist. The decadent caramel flavour pairs perfectly with the umami goodness of Lee Kum Kee’s Premium Soy Sauce. It’s sweet, it’s salty, and it’s downright delicious. To give it that extra crunch, the gelato is studded with chunks of chewy Premium Soy Sauce brownies, taking the flavour profile to new heights.

Chilli Oil Gelato: It’s hot and it’s cold …
This coconut and kaffir lime gelato is a refreshing, creamy base with a spicy kick. The sharp lime pairs beautifully with the subtle sweetness of coconut, while the toasted peanuts and Chiu Chow Chili Oil peanut crisps give it a satisfying crunch and, yes, a seriously spicy punch.

Replace the cherry on top with a drizzle of some of Lee Kum Kee’s classic chilli oil. It’s a bold move, but a very cool one (literally).

A sweet deal
Gelato Messina, known for pushing boundaries with innovative flavours, and Lee Kum Kee, a household name in Asian kitchens, are changing the taste sensations you’d normally come to expect by bringing soy sauce to ice cream for what must be a world first. Surely?

Not only are these gelatos a nod to the festivities of Lunar New Year, but they’re also a celebration of what happens when tradition meets creativity. In Australia, where multiculturalism is woven into the fabric of everyday life, it’s the perfect way to kick off the Year of the Snake – bold, daring, and full of surprises.

Want in on the scoop? Here’s where to trial the new flavours.
