Fiji Time: 7 Reasons To Stay On Denarau Island1

Carly Abrahams from Mums the Word – Aus gives us her hot tips on travelling to Fiji with your family and making it both fun and affordable particularly with deals on websites like flybuys travel.

Having run a Mums Facebook Group for over five years now, there are a few key issues that come up in my group consistently, one of them being ‘where is the best place to holiday with young children?’ I have always maintained that whilst your kids are little the furthest you need to travel with them is Fiji.

Small children won’t remember exploring the beauty of Paris, tasting pizza in Italy or the theme parks of America and they certainly won’t make the lengthy journey to those destinations enjoyable.

Most little ones are content with swimming pools, beaches, hot chips and possibly a water slide. Plus travelling with little children is seriously hard work, just getting out the door can be an epic battle when you have kids, so travelling to foreign far away countries is really not a holiday at all.

Many of my friends have returned from taking their children to the other side of the world, only to return looking exhausted, drinking a lot of alcohol and swearing they will never travel with their kids again until they’re in high school.

Fiji, however, is the perfect destination for families. First of all, it’s only four hours away! And package deals on websites like flybuys travel mean it’s often more affordable than travelling within Australia, especially during school holidays. flybuys travel also won Online Travel Agent of the Year in 2018 making them a great option through which to book your family escape to Fiji and collect a stack of flybuys points at the same time.

Fiji offers so many options for all members of the family, but if you have little ones the biggest upside would have to be the affordable help. Of course there are the crystal clear waters, beautiful beaches and stunning resorts but let’s face it, if you’re a tired mum, any holiday with an extra pair of hands or a kids club is a win….. and Fiji has the best there is.

Fiji ticks so many boxes for travelling families; there are many different levels of accommodation to suit any budget, from luxury island resorts to hotels on the mainland. There are affordable food options or fine dining and getting there isn’t an endless flight, but again I come back to the nannies and kids clubs.

I have travelled to Fiji four times, sometimes with one small child, sometimes with four children, and have stayed at both chain hotels and exclusive island resorts. Each time it was a great holiday for me, as I got time out to relax and unwind, and the children had a ball because they either had a fabulous nanny, a kids club or a buddy to entertain them.

– Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is an absolute stand out. It has the most incredible kids club I’ve experienced anywhere in the world. It’s more like a mini resort within the resort, with its own pool, waterslides, flying fox, trampoline and mini restaurant.

– Radisson Blu is great for toddlers as they have a number of different pools and slides that are shallow just for one, two and three year olds, plus bigger options for kids a little older, and with a nanny helping to follow your kids from pool to pool, everyone can enjoy themselves.

– Nanuku Fiji is a luxury resort in an idyllic setting with incredible, spacious rooms and villas. It has numerous activities and adventures on offer for the kids and the buddy’s per child instead of nannies were a big hit with the boys in my family.

– Sheraton Fiji Resort in Denarau, just 20 minutes from Nadi Airport, offers everything you’d expect from a Sheraton, with a range of room options that are all good sizes, access to many facilities and the kids club and nannies are so helpful. Your nanny can also take your children to experience the activities and facilities of some of the other hotels along the strip, so they definitely won’t be bored.

– Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa is an easy, relaxing holiday with young children. It has a great beach at the front of the resort, lots of room options and villas, numerous swimming pools and helpful, friendly staff, you won’t be disappointed.

Other Fiji hotels that are favourites for families include; Vomo, Castaway Island, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa and Malolo Island Resort.

So if you’re in the trenches of those early years of parenting, I highly recommend taking a break and heading over there. flybuys travel has a range of Fiji family holiday “escapes” that will take care of all the arrangements needed for your entire trip, including flights, accommodation, transfers and a variety of bonuses (like a massage each for Mum and Dad). There’s also no booking fees, the website is easy to use with 24/7 help, plus you collect flybuys points when you book.

As Winter’s cold weather is already here, I am once again jumping online to flybuys travel to look at booking another Fijian winter escape.
