Essential Travel Items This Winter

As an avid traveller myself, I know all too well the curse of the cold cabin. You sit on the plane, bubbling with anticipation, Pina Coladas in your eyes, and when you disembark, all you experience is a running nose and fear about how it will affect your highly anticipated holiday.

Quick to blame your coughing neighbor, it’s actually not always Tom, Dick or Harry sitting next to you, but a combination of the cold temperature and low humidity of the cabin. This dehydrates the nasal tissues which means your nasal immunity is exposed further and is more susceptible to catching a cold. So when you step off the plane ready to put on your bathing suit, you’re likely to be running to the chemist instead, catching a nasty virus instead of a wave. Here, we have sniffed out (literally) the best and most effective ways to travel sans the sniffles and flu.

We have complied the essential items you need to pack before jetting off on a Winter break. From Flo Travel – an uber clever and easy nasal spray to keep you germ-free, to buttery-soft slippers that will keep your toes warm; this is your travel armour for a fuss-free flight and totally blissed-out holiday. Margaritas all round.

Relinquish the usual routine of leaving a flight sniffling, snuffling and shivering, and spray away with Flo Travel. This amazing little spray is the first of its kind; a moisturising nasal spray that helps relieve nasal dryness, washes away germs and supports your overall nasal immunity. Your nasal passage needs to be well hydrated; after all, your snout is doing all the hard work en route. Prolonged periods spent in environments with a low relative humidity can prove problematic for your health, and can make you more vulnerable for virus and infection. Flo Travel boasts two super ingredients; clinically tested Carrageenan – red seaweed extract, which binds to the nasal tissues and retains moisture (for four hours!), and Isotonic, a preservative-free saline solution that literally washes away germs and other airborne irritants (colds be gone). Travelling with little ones? Flo Travel spray is great because it’s suitable for children aged two years and up, and for those under two, try Flo Baby Saline Spray. A few sprays sand you’re on your way to a wholly happy and hydrated nose – so you can enjoy your vacation to its idyllic potential.

Mist Away

Whilst aerosols provoke a prompt binning at airport security, a mist is your passport to hydrated skin without the airport stress. There is no better way to refresh and nourish your skin than with a hydrating mist, as it not only replenishes dry skin, but also rejuvenates with a spritz of that fresh haze. The beautifully soothing notes of lavender in this Jurlique variety will also calm and placate the frenetic pre-flight pace, so you can snooze away into a deep(ish) slumber.

Water Baby

Golden Travel Rule 101: water, water, water. It’s no secret planes dehydrate you, and keeping your fluids up is keynote to good travel health. Add an extra hit of hydration to your H2O with The Beauty Chef’s Inner Beauty Hydration Boost, which keeps your skin glowing and bouncy with a delicious organic blend of bio-fermented and coconut-infused probiotic designed to support gut health and enhance skin radiance.

Wrap It Up

Remember when your mum always told you to take a jacket when you left the house? This should be no exception when flying. Forgo a cumbersome coat however, and simply cover necks and shoulders to keep you as snug-as-a-bug whilst en route. Opt for a finer but equally warm cashmere in favour of a large chunky woollen knit, which is not so suitcase-friendly. For extra mileage, a luxurious eye mask will keep you going that extra distance.

Slip In

There is nothing worse than sitting on a plane with dizzyingly high heels or boots that are too tight for your toes. Slip into something more comfortable; opt for a chic slipper – a wonderful hybrid of the hip and the comfy. Boot your Uggs and replace them with a modish take on the Moccasin, yes, the Aussie staple has been made up and is having a serious moment. Like them, or loathe them, the Gucci Princetown Leather Loafer continues its dominance down south, and they make the perfect travel companion. You can slip-in-slip-out for optimum travel ease, plus their furry insides will keep you warm and fuzzy all round.

Spice It Up

For most of us who turn right down the plane, the offering of teas is usually kept to a simple English Breakfast, Earl Grey or Green. But herbal tea with Lemon Myrtle, Linden flower, Peppermint, Dandelion Root or Green Rooibos is great for warming you from the inside out and packs a healing punch, with anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-septic and detoxifying properties. Turn your inflight tipple to tea, or pack some fresh shaves of ginger and turmeric in a zip-lock bag, which aid travel-induced nausea and help thwart a cold.
