Right about now, you’re probably trying to desperately cling to that spring / summer glow, exfoliating, fake-tanning and illuminating away in the hope of polishing and preening those skin cells to gleaming perfection.

But did you know there’s an even easier way to give your complexion a boost of summery brightness? Simply swipe on some orange lipstick.

Just look at what it does to the gorgeous faces above.

On Karolina Kurkova (left), a lip lacquer in a juicy marmalade shade, shot through with shimmer, enhances a gorgeous sun-kissed look; for a similar effect, try Estée Lauder Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Melting Sun, $51.

On Emma Watson (middle), a solid, super-saturated lipstick in a papaya-like hue is all that’s needed to add life and colour to her black-clad look; Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Mischievous, will give you a similar effect.

And on Holland Roden (right), a coral take on the colour infuses her peaches-and-cream complexion with a pretty flush; for this style of orange lippie, go for Lancôme Rouge in Love in 146B Miss Coquelicot.

As you can see orange lipstick complements a spectrum of skintones (it also looks amazing when it pops against darker skins). And it’s best worn as the sole makeup focus; by all means, brush on some peachy blush or bronzer, and define your eyes and lashes – but leave the green and blue eye shadows out of the picture. The orange lip of the moment is a strong enough statement on its own.

In other lip need-to-know news, Dior has just released its range of Addict Fluid Sticks. These pigment-packed, high-shine liquids, which are painted on with a doe-foot applicator (cue easy precision), coat lips thickly (while managing to feel light and comfy on), and last a good few hours. They’re available in 16 shades but my star is – you guessed it – an orange.

Aventure is ultra-bright, but its warm coral undertones keep it from looking brash. In fact, it’s one of the chicest oranges I’ve seen in a long time. Another of the it-shades in the range is Mirage , a pretty pale peach, that would be the perfect dash of orange if you want to slowly build up to this statement lip look.
