Prepare Yourself For The Emotional August Blue Moon

August’s full Blue Moon is on its way, and spiritually it’s set to have a big impact on our emotions as we reflect on what we’ve achieved and get a second chance to complete unfinished business.

This Sunday’s ‘seasonal’ full Blue Moon (August 22nd) is also in the sign Aquarius unusually for the second time this year, offering us another chance to reset, release and reach an organic end with things, whether that be a romance, a friendship, an alliance, or even realising a dream.

This is a somewhat rare second full moon in the same sign in a row this year… where the Sun in Leo is forming an opposition to the full moon in Aquarius, so many people will feel at cross purposes within themselves or even in conflict.

First Wolf Moon of 2026: In Cancer Brings Emotional Clarity

We need to be mindful that full moons are reflective and emotional times when we think about our accomplishments, let go of things that are holding us back, consider whether second chances are warranted and look at how we can fulfil our dreams and desires.

And with much of the nation in lockdown… now is the perfect time to focus internally and let things go. We can be resistant about letting go of ‘stuff’ that we should be letting go of.

At the moment with many people being in lockdown and feeling isolated, they will be repressing emotions and events… but repressed memories come back at a later date.

Rather than pushing them down it may be time to accept the true reality – look at it in a positive way, like going diving and you can find a sunken treasure – because it may help you heal or move on in the long term.

Despite its name, the full Blue Moon won’t actually be blue – but it will still be visually impressive when you look to the east after dusk on Sunday (you’ll see it on Saturday too)!

This ‘seasonal’ Blue Moon actually gets its name because it’s the third full moon to occur in an astronomical season with four full moons, where an astronomical season is bound by the equinoxes and solstices.

The winter solstice occurred on 21st June and the Spring Equinox occurs on 23rd September, so there are four full moons in a three-month period. A ‘monthly’ Blue Moon occurs when there are two full moons in a calendar month – but that’s not happening with this moon.

The seasonal Blue Moon signifies the end of winter and the beginning of spring and is also known as the ‘Sturgeon Moon’ relating to the prehistoric fish once abundant this time of year in the Great Lakes region in America.

Every full moon has its own name based on the month or the season in which it appears – a name for each full moon allows people to reflect on each season and to contemplate how it affects them and the natural world.

Thinking, star signs

The full Sturgeon Blue Moon being in Aquarius enables us to go ‘fishing’ for messages in our deep subconscious waters.

Aquarius is an air sign and brings emotions from your subconscious into your mind; these are things you need to spend some time mulling over and thinking about.

Aquarius also has the symbol of the ‘water bearer’ which means although Aquarians spend lots of time in the mental realms, they carry deep-seated emotions.

The problem with so many lockdowns is that we can go fishing on an internal level, but because people can’t be encouraged to go out, this will make them more frustrated.

It is important to try to really push through to finish emotional or subconscious business by nurturing your intuition and emotions.

Leo is actively bold and as the full moon is near the end of Leo season, we need to take fresh steps to start a chain of events or changes of heart.

Try to do things you enjoy or are moved by – because ending things like friendships, relationships or work can be emotionally heavy. On the flip side, it may be that you are giving certain people a second chance.

A full moon always brings some form of transformation for everyone and as Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus, Aquarians and Capricornians could be especially affected.

So how will the year’s second full moon in Aquarius on August 22 influence your star sign?
