With The Met Gala 2016 on our heels, we kick off the frivolity with a cinematic homage. The First Monday in May, follows fashion’s First Lady, Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, and Costume Institute Curator, Andrew Bolton, as they orchestrate the biggest event on the fashion calendar.

Filmmaker Andrew Rossi has an all-access pass for the most lavish party and The Met’s most attended fashion exhibition in history, ‘China: Through The Looking Glass’. Rossi explores the creation of the exhibition which looks at China’s substantial influence on Western fashion.

The blockbuster exploration of Chinese-inspired Western fashions provides inspiration for the Met Gala’s annual collision of haute couture and celebrity, where Hollywood stars including Kate Hudson, George Clooney, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Lawrence, Gong Li, and Lady Gaga rub shoulders with Alicia Keyes, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Michael Bloomberg and contemporary pop icon Rihanna, who brings down the house with a stunning live performance.

The First Monday in May also reignites the debate over whether fashion can and should be viewed as art. Rossi speaks with renowned creators including filmmakers Wong Kar-Wai, Artistic Director of the exhibition, and Baz Luhrmann, as well preeminent fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier, Guo Pei and John Galliano. Thomas P. Campbell, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Former Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute Harold Koda offer unexpected insights on the relationship between art, craft and commerce.

A must-see for those with a penchant for sartorial wonder, The First Monday In May captures the creativity, passion, and inspiration behind the exhibition and gala, culminating in a brilliant piece of cinematic fashion history.

We hope you enjoy the first look at the official trailer, due for release May 12.

With her lyrical turn of phrase and penchant for uber-glamour, Chrisanthi Kaliviotis is in her element writing about beauty for The Carousel, while weaving in fun fashion and pop culture references. She also loves a road test, so we send many of the new hair tools that arrive her way (she actually knows how to use them). Have you seen that hair?
