My Makeup Bag Must-Haves: Five Beauty Essentials I Keep Going Back To

When it comes to beauty, there are a few tried-and-true favourites that I can’t live without. These five products have earned a permanent spot in my makeup bag — they’re the ones I reach for time and time again.

1. M.A.C. Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle

When it comes to highlighters, M.A.C.’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle is a classic for a reason. This finely milled, shimmering beige powder gives your complexion a luminous glow without looking too frosty or metallic. Sweep it across your cheekbones, brow bones, and down the bridge of your nose for that effortless, radiant finish.
Try: M.A.C. Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, $73

2. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

I used to think primer was optional — until I discovered Laura Mercier’s award-winning Foundation Primer. This silicone-free formula completely changed my routine. Unlike silicone-based primers that tend to slide off by midday, this one keeps my makeup fresh for hours. You can wear it under foundation to plump and prep the skin, use it solo for a boost of vitamins A, C, and E, or even mix it with powder eyeshadow for a creamy, smooth finish.
Try: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, from $89

3. Neutrogena Hydro Boost

Long hours in front of screens (and the occasional late night) can leave eyes looking tired and puffy. That’s where Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost range of creams comes in. Infused with hyaluronic acid and olive extract, it helps hydrate and refresh the delicate under-eye area while improving circulation.
Try: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel 50g, $22

4. Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream

After years of testing foundations, this CC cream remains a favourite. Bourjois 123 Perfect combines three colour-correcting pigments: apricot to revive tired skin, green to neutralise redness, and white tea to brighten dark spots. The result? A naturally radiant, medium-coverage base that feels feather-light — so comfortable you’ll forget you’re wearing anything at all.
Try: Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream, $90

5. Artémes Lashes in ‘Twice Bitten’

A good set of false lashes can instantly transform your look — and your mood. I’m obsessed with Artémes lashes, especially the ‘Twice Bitten’ style. They feature wispy hairs that are longer in the centre for a wide-eyed, voluminous effect that’s both glamorous and wearable.
Try: Artémes Lashes in Twice Bitten, $28
