Former Winter Olympian, pilates instructor and founder of Premium Performance, Steph Prem is one Aussie golden girl. In celebration of Mother’s Day, we chatted to Steph about her relationship with #MumWeLove Jeanine.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Jeanine, what do you most love about being a mum?

Being a mum is fabulous, but being a mum to two daughters is just awesome. I am really proud of the relationships I have with both my girls and all the activities we share, but I am even more proud of the achievements both Steph and Annie have been able to notch up both professionally and personally in their short lives. To watch and hear, everyday, two beautiful, happy and confident girls is just a joy.

Jeanine, what was Steph like growing up?

Steph was always a happy little girl growing up and still is as a big girl today. Every day is good day for Steph and she was aptly named by one of her very early snowboard coaches as the ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ of her group… This is still true today!

Jeanine, what are your favourite Mother’s Day rituals?

For me it is always the ‘threat’ of telling the ‘birth story’, which after numerous moans and groans I do not continue! I always look forward to a Mother’s Day lunch, brunch or dinner – whatever the girls can manage with their very busy lives. There is something about good food with a splash of wine and us all talking and laughing at the same time around a table that makes me very happy.

Jeanine, you could go back and tell yourself anything before having children, what would it be?

I would tell myself to enjoy the freedom, to nurture your relationship/s and travel as much as you can. With motherhood comes a bit of prioritizing and these things are not as plentiful with small children – but once they are grown up they all come back again with a vengeance!

Jeanine, can you sum up Steph in 3 words?

Happy, sincere and caring.

Steph, what’s your favourite Mother’s Day memory?

Tucked up in Mum’s bed with my sister watching The Sound of Music and singing at the top of our lungs while Dad cooked us all pancakes.

Steph, can you sum up your Mum in 3 words?

Witty, intelligent and kind.

Steph, what’s the best piece of advice your Mum gave you?

All boys are stupid. Ha! That was a good one but probably the best piece of advice has been to be strong, not be afraid to have a voice and to always believe in yourself.

Steph, what’s your pick for your Mum for Mother’s Day from our #SundayFunday collection?

Mum would lose her mind for the Knitted Pom Pom Socks – she would rock those at the snow and around the house on a cold winter’s day! She would also love the Puffer Vest to wear it to my outdoor bootcamps!

Steph and Jeanine, how important is health and wellbeing in your relationship? And why?

Steph:Very! We are so supportive of each other’s health and fitness goals. We have always been really active and Mum spent half my childhood driving me to ballet and jazz classes and snowboard comps. I’m lucky Mum and Dad are really fit. Mum has a group of gal pals that all train with me twice a week at my studio – we love it and Mum and I always make time for a juice after class to catch up on all the gossip!

Jeanine: Health and wellbeing is paramount in our lives. We have always been a very active family, in particular with our snowsports. We all enjoy cooking and strive to make the healthiest choices, although, are not always successful! It has always been a belief with my husband and myself that an active body and mind can assist health and happiness. Lucky for us, so far so true.

Steph and Jeanine, do you spend time being active together?

Steph:Yes we do! Mum and I have travelled a lot together and are always on the look out for the hottest gym or studio and take classes together. We also went to a health retreat earlier this year. At home we love to take beach walks with my sister and her pug (followed by brunch of course) and in winter my whole family goes skiing and snowboarding together. Being active together is our glue – we love it!

Jeanine: Snowsport is the obvious one for us being active together. The whole family snowboards now and I am the only skier, but we can still whip around the slopes together. We still hit a mean tennis ball and of course we are all now pilates devotees at Steph’s Premium Performance studio!
