For those of you wondering if the Northern Territory (NT) is worth a visit, TODAY Show co-host and Mate of the Territory, Lisa Wilkinson believes everyone should take the time to explore Australia’s heartland.

From the mighty gorges, spiritual wetlands, ancient Aboriginal rock art, to the sunburnt hues of the Red Centre, home to Australia’s national icon Uluru, Lisa believes the NT is a getaway everyone needs to make.

Since becoming a Mate of the Territory, Lisa confesses her bucket-list is continually growing as she discovers more about the region. She says her love affair with the NT really started to take hold when she covered the Royal Visit in Uluru last year.

“I was thrilled when I heard I would be travelling to Uluru to cover the royal visit for the TODAY Show, as I knew it would be the perfect backdrop to tick off my lifelong dream to ride a Harley. It was TRULY one of the most memorable things I’ve ever done.

“This is what the Territory is all about – embracing those activities we’ve long had on our bucket list in one of the most exciting regions of Australia” Lisa said.

In a more recent trip to Darwin, Lisa managed to tick a few more activities off her must-do list including learning about the capital’s rich WWII history at the Darwin Military Museum and getting up close and personal with the Top End’s most iconic reptiles – by swimming with crocodiles at CrocoSaurus Cove!

We asked Lisa what’s next on her NT bucket list, and here is what she had to say:

  1. Hiking, mountain climbing and sight-seeing, breathing in the fresh air of the NT
  2. Visiting monuments, statues, museums and art galleries to soak up the culture
  3. Taking in the extraordinary sunset in the NT’s red centre with wine and nibbles, gazing up at the night sky (you can see the stars so much more clearly in the NT)
  4. Discovering the amazing flora and fauna of our iconic backyard
