The official trailer of the new Ted Lasso Season 4 is out this week and excited Ted Lasso fans are back touching their ‘Believe’ signs.
“Welcome back, Coach,” says a familiar fan as Ted wanders into green and leafy Richmond once more. “Too bad you’re coaching a bunch of girls.”
With that, the scene is set for a new season tackling both the prejudice and triumphs of women’s football. Ted and Beard are now coaching Richmond’s second division women’s football team.
Most of the old faces are back. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) is seen kissing her Dutch paramour in the trailer. Keeley (Juno Temple) and Roy (Brett Goldstein) smoulder on. But there are new faces too. Among them Tracey Ullman and Tanya Reynolds of Sex Education fame.
Close watchers will know that the idea of a Richmond women’s team was teased at the end of Season 3 but also at the very start of the first season when Ted watches schoolgirl, Shannon Hayes, single-handedly take on a group of boys on Richmond Green. “Sometimes the best way to stick it to the man is to go right through his legs,” Ted remarks to Coach Beard. (Shannon Hayes has a part in the new season).
Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, the writers of the show had said that Season 3 was to be its last back in 2023. But Ted Lasso was too big a hit for it to lie dormant for long. It had won too many awards and become Apple TV+’s biggest success story, remaining in its top ten of most watched shows three years after it had finished.
It was also often described as a great big warm hug at a time when people needed it most. That appears to remain true.
Ted Lasso Season 4 will be on Apple TV+ on August 5 2027.
