Nestled in the heart of New South Wales, Orange is a cosy Australian town, enchanting travellers with picturesque vineyards, delicious wines, and stunning countryside views. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur looking to sample the region, or just wanting a weekend escape from the city, there’s something for everyone.

If you want the best regional respite experience, check out my top five experiences in this charming town.

1. Tour of the Region with Orange Trike Tours

For those looking to kick off their adventure with a safe dose of adrenaline, Orange Trike Tours Orange offers a unique and exhilarating way to explore the region. Hop aboard a German made Boom Mustang Trike and embark on a guided tour through scenic landscapes. Mark, your warm and friendly host, will go out of his way to give you a personalised and immersive experience. The tour takes you through rolling hills, striking vineyards, and winding country roads. You’ll get the opportunity to stop at lookout points with breathtaking views.

2. Wine Tasting at ChaLou Wines

The secrete gem of Orange has got to be the cellar doors of ChaLou Wines. With panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards, it’s the ideal spot for a romantic afternoon. This family-owned winery is renowned for its high-quality products and warm hospitality. As you savour their selection, the backdrop of the setting sun casting a golden glow on the vineyards adds a touch of magic to the experience.

We enjoyed the wine at ChaLou so much that we left with several bottles after our tasting. Fortunately, you can order directly from their website so there is no need to wait until your next trip to enjoy what is on offer. However, I must recommend an in-person tasting if you can! Nadja, the owner winemaker, walks you through their selection in an intimate one-on-one setting, giving the wines a story from bud to bottle.

3. Private Wine Tour with Winery Experiences Orange

For a personalized wine-tasting adventure, I highly recommend booking a tour with Lauren at Winery Experiences Orange. She specializes in crafting private and customizable wine tours tailored to your preferences. Whether you’re interested in exploring boutique wineries, learning about the winemaking process, or meeting local winemakers, Winery Experiences Orange can create an itinerary that suits your desires. It’s the perfect way to delve deeper into the region’s wine culture.

Lauren is a delightful host, and obviously a cornerstone of the Orange community. She was extremely warm. It was almost like I was being shown around town by a family member I hadn’t seen for a while.

4. Morning Wine and Champagne Tasting at Word of Mouth Wine

Start your day in Orange with a touch of elegance by visiting Word of Mouth Wine. Set on a beautiful property adorned with lush gardens, this boutique winery offers tastings from 10am. We had a lovely start to our Sunday morning here, indulging in sparkling wine and decadent Muffins for breakfast. The scenic surroundings provide a serene backdrop as you savour a variety of wines.

I left inspired to one day move out of Sydney and live the country dream just like the lovely vineyard owners!

5. Dinner at the Oriana Hotel Peacock Room

After a day of exploration, treat yourself to a special dining experience at the Oriana Hotel’s Peacock Room. This elegant restaurant offers a European-inspired menu that offers a modern twist on the greatest classics. The ambiance is refined yet welcoming, offering the perfect place to relax and reflect on your day’s adventures while indulging in a delicious meal.

Other recommendations:

  • Small Acres Cyder – if wine isn’t your thing, or if you just fancy a cold cider in the summer sun Small Acres is worth a visit.
  • Jumbled – this is an incredible shop in the middle of town. Worth a visit even if just to have a look around. The store is filled with bright and unique homeware pieces.
  • Hey Rosey – a great bar in town, serving delicious food, an ample selection of wines and fantastic customer service.
