Fashion advocate Danielle Johansen, the founder of Threadicated, an online personal styling service that uses the expertise of a personal stylist, combined with technology to create a truly personalised styling experience, reports on how to elevate your basics.

As the population of double vaxxed citizens grows, we inch closer and closer to a life out of lockdown. While I love the idea of seeing family and friends, eating a meal out, or enjoying an ice cold Negroni made by the talented team at Hubert’s, I am not sure I can go back to a life without wearing my basics everyday. Just because we are heading back into the world does not mean we need to give up on the pieces that have been like a trusted friend over the last few months, we just need a few simple tricks to take them up a notch. Here’s my tips and tricks for elevating your basics.

Loving your tees: Try tucking one side of your shirt into the waistline of your bottoms. This creates interest to the eye. It is also a trick to look slimmer, rather than the eye being drawn to the hem of the tee, which usually sits at the top of the hips it is drawn to the waist, an area that is smaller than the hip line.

Roll up your sleeves: Whether you are wearing a tee or a button down, it is a great way to create curiosity in your outfit. I recommend a double roll on a short sleeve tee, or a roll up to just below the elbow for anything long sleeved.

Add a belt: That tiny strip of leather has a lot more power than just holding up your pants. Adding a belt over top of a dress or with a pair of jeans will add some style and spark to any outfit. It is a great way to pull your look together and emphasise your curves if you’re wearing a loose-fitting top or dress.

Belts

Cuff your jeans: Now, this might not even seem to make a difference but trust me it does. Cuffing your jeans or rolling them up brings a hint of inquisitiveness to your basic jeans. Plus it’s a great way to show off your shoes and ankles and make your legs look longer. You can try a single or a double roll. A single roll works well with stiff, straight-leg jeans and double rolls work with your baggier jeans.
