When children meet their idols

This could be one of the most inspiring – not to mention heart-warming – videos you and your child will watch all year.

Seeing is Believing follows three young Aussie girls – Sierra, 6, Annika, 9, and Brianna, 11 – as they get to meet their respective idols; celebrated author Jacqueline Harvey, marine biologist Sam Hillman, and helicopter doctor Clare Richmond.

Released by the Sydney Opera House and sponsor Maserati to help promote this year’s All About Women festival, the clip aims to inspire young women to dream big and let them know those dreams can come true.

“If you want to do something, you can do it,” beams Brianna after meeting her helicopter hero Clare.

The film is the first piece of content unveiled as part of the digital program for All About Women – the annual Opera House festival exploring ideas and issues that matter to women today – which returns on March 5, ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron AM said: “Seeing really is believing: I urge everyone to take a few minutes to watch this piece. It is breathtaking to see the light go on in the girls’ faces as their dreams come to life in front of their eyes.”

Sydney Opera House Head of Talks & Ideas Ann Mossop said: “So often in our daily lives we rely on stories, or the examples of others to understand what is possible. What this video shows very clearly is how difficult that can still be for girls. The revelation of these female role models and the very genuine and personal impact makes this video very powerful.”

This year’s star-studded All About Women line-up includes an appearance by Hollywood icon Geena Davis.

The Thelma & Louise star is in Sydney to talk about how film and TV culture reproduces gender stereotypes, and how the industry needs to change to reflect and celebrate real women and girls.
