Dag Kittlaus took to the stage, below, at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference to demonstrate his latest creation.
Viv aims to go beyond — and take on — Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana and the voice inside Google.
Dag says the idea is that you’ll be able to talk to Viv as naturally as if you were speaking to another person.
You’ll also be able to use your voice to order flowers, or summon Uber, as Dag showed off during his demonstration.
“We think the key to that is having a third party platform where anyone can add to the experience,” Dag told the conference.
His new still developing assistant will grow up in all sorts of devices, “eventually.”
Dag’s company Viv Labs has been approached, he says, by major car companies, consumer electronics, car and Internet companies.
“We have no shortage of distribution opportunities and that’s really the next step…We have more interest in what we’re doing than we can possibly handle. We’re booked and ready to go.”
Dag didn’t exactly say when consumers will start to be able to engage Viv or specifically in what devices.
But he has no doubt that it will happen in a big way in the next few years.
“We’re going to turn a corner here. There is so much investment going in this area and we have a platform that is going to enable a huge amount of new use cases. And there’s a whole lot of other players here too. The race to the single interface is on.”
