“All we want to do is work with natural texture,” stated Pulitano. “Dion’s collection is so beautiful that we want to bring an element of ‘streetness’ back into it.
“So how do we do that? This season we don’t want to create a dusty, fluffy texture. We want a bit of fluff but we want to maintain a clean feel to the hair whilst it is still a bit grungy so the grungy comes from a really natural texture.
Step 1 – Start with Redken’s Aerate 08. “This body building cream will give the hair a bit of body, but a bit of control at the same time. Dry it into the hair with a hairdryer.”
Step 2 – Use a hair tong to create texture. “Take a tong and look for the natural wave in the hair and wrap the tong around really lightly just to create the tiniest ‘S’ bend. It isn’t a uniform curl; it isn’t a glamorous curl… it is just a bit of movement. It is a polished, natural texture.”
Step 3 – Finish with Redken Argan-6. “Use just a little bit of serum on the ends to keep the hair separated and loose. We’re also going to tuck the hair into the clothes and strategically pull it out so it comes out randomly. It’s a really good way to do a hair up when the hair is still down in a sense.”
Other tips
“Fashion is quite dressy at the moment. You want to juxtapose that and make it look a little tougher. Instead of dirty looking hair you want clean, grungy looking hair. I think that is how we have transitioned, over the past few seasons it has been a bit dusty, it has been a bit wet, and it has been a bit greasy… now we want clean, natural hair.”
