We think it’s also totally acceptable to spend much of the day dreaming about sipping champagne on the Champs Elysee or an aperitif at the French Riviera. Here’s some other top French experiences that will have you in a state of Francophile wanderlust.

Luxury cruising
Just as France knows how to serve up fine food and wine, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has indulgence in the bag. Think Arcachon oyster tasting, sampling local cheeses at famers markets, a visit to the cellars of a Grand Cru estate in St-Emilion and private wine-pairing lunches at a Chateau. Déliceux!

If there’s one thing the French know, it’s how to slow down and savour life. It stands to reason that the best way to enjoy a visit to France is to take your time. Take time to spend an afternoon strolling around a gallery in Paris, find a little café so you can people watch in Avignon or explore the Monte Carlo coastline.

World heritage sites and history

Discover the secrets of France as you journey into the south-west corner to uncover the small villages, historic landmarks and local rural character unseen by most visitors. Explore the Rocamadour Sanctuary, a town built onto the cliff face, with a resident Local Specialist; Visit Lascaux, famous for its caves with paintings dating back over 17,000 years ago and stay in an 18th century-listed water mill in the world heritage listed town, Albi.

Stay in a Chateau

What could be more quintessentially French than a stay in a chateau? Perhaps one that is amongst a Beaujolais vineyard. Chateau de Cruix is one such property that is open to travellers. It’s not difficult to summon up the luxe lifestyles of history’s French nobility here as you sweep through the grand halls or enjoy a picnic of fresh French foods on the grounds.

Indulge and stroll in the Dordogne

In France, joie de vivre, isn’t just a concept, it’s a way of life. We can’t think of anything more befitting of this phrase than a holiday that combines the great outdoors, spectacular scenery and delicious French cuisine. The Perigod is one of the largest and most picturesque regions in France plus is famed for its fabulous gastronomy. Think fresh trout, wild mushrooms, aromatic truffles and duck every which way. The region is divided in two by the river Dordogne, its banks dotted with over 1000 castles all steeped in rich history and legends. Embark on a journey that combines scenic walks past dramatic limestone cliffs, along tranquil riverside paths and through medieval villages with well-earned feasts of royal proportions.
