Rebecca Vallance Shares Her Inspiration at NYFW

My inspiration came from…

We really tried to focus on film noir women in the 1920’s, juxtaposed against what was happening in the 70’s, such as bright poppy colours, and the prints from our collection were actually inspired by wallpapers from this era.

Balancing old and new…

We try to remain consistent throughout each collection, such as the sense of the woman being quite strong and finding her sexuality.

On designing each collection…

We do so many collections at once but we try and start every single one as a complete original. There’s always some pieces that we know the customer loves, but we really try and find inspiration from totally different sources. Last season was all about my trip to the Caribbean, whereas this season is all about women in film noir. I’m not sure if there’s ever a carry-on in terms of theme, but we always try and keep a few styles the same.

I think the customer wants that, so we really try and have strong styles that stick, but with a twist.

The Rebecca Vallance woman is…

She’s strong, she loves fashion and she makes fashion trends her own.
