If it’s true that owners become increasingly like their pets over time, then I am in big trouble.
Stanley is a middle aged Westy, with bad teeth, a rapidly expanding girth, a penchant for roast chicken. He was sold to us (at great expense) as a pure bred West Highland white terrier.

The sales guy just neglected to add the poodle cross part, because we quickly realised that our Stan is no thoroughbred. No, he is in fact a poodle/westy cross, which quite aptly makes him a “Pesty.” Pesty by name and pesty by nature. He’s his own dog … stubborn to a fault and with selective deafness (like the rest of the family). In fact, we’re thinking about changing his name to “chicken,” the only word that is guaranteed to bring him back.
But all jokes aside, I am completely obsessed with this little white sausage, who is the only member of the household that is genuinely happy to see me every time I walk through the door. In fact, I would spend more time with Stan than any other living creature. His loyalty is unwavering and his love unconditional, which is why I never cut any corners with his care.

The idea of any nasty pests causing my favourite ‘pesty’ discomfort or harm is unthinkable. Parasites like fleas, Heartworms and gut worms are not only disgusting, but also potential killers of our furry friends, which is why I bring out the big guns when it comes to protecting Stan the man.
Bayer is a leader in pet health and their Advocate treatments for dogs and cats treat more parasites than any other product. One squeeze to the back of his neck once a month, and I can rest easy that my main man Stan is protected from fleas, heartworm and intestinal worms, which by the way are readily transmittable to humans.
For such little critters, fleas really pack a punch. They can bite up to 400 times a day. Their bites aren’t just itchy but can also be painful, cause skin damage and have the potential to result in secondary bacterial infections. Not ideal by any means, but luckily they’re easily preventable with Advocate for Dogs and Advocate for Cats.
Advocate stops fleas feeding within 3 to 5 minutes, kills adult fleas and their larvae within 20 minutes and breaks the flea lifecycle. Just because you can’t see these nasty parasites, doesn’t mean they’re not there. Advocate is like a suit of armour for Stan that protects him, not just from fleas but also from parasite infections, gastrointestinal worms and deadly heartworms. It’s a no brainer. One squeeze to the back of his neck once a month and I can relax knowing Stan is protected.
In our family, the first Sunday of every month is known as ‘Standay.’ It’s the day where Stan enjoys a bit of ‘poochy pampering.’ A wash, a blow-dry and his parasite treatment. For us, that’s Advocate, for fleas, intestinal worms and heartworm. But depending on where you live, what treatments you need could vary. Different postcode; different pests. So if you’re unsure what you should be protecting your furry friends from, then just check with your local vet.
Standay has become a bit of a ritual in our house and I like to think Stan even looks forward to it. But if you struggle to remember your own birthday let alone your pets parasite treatment due date, then just go to advantagepetcare.com.au and register your furry friend to receive an SMS or email update when their next treatment is due.
They say that a dog is man’s best friend, but Stan is more than that. He’s part of our family and I’m fiercely protective of him. Advocate treats more parasites than any other product. I trust Advocate for Dogs to protect Stan from all those nasty pests, because there’s definitely only room for one ‘Pesty’ in our house.
