While celebrating her brother Robert’s 12th birthday at Australia Zoo, Bindi was astounded when The Today Show told her one report had her already hitched and the other about to walk down the aisle.
“That is hilarious,” said Bindi, just back in Queensland after her famous win in the US version of Dancing With The Stars.
“Oh my goodness, I hadn’t heard that. That is the funniest thing I have heard in my life.
“Nope, nope, pretty much just 17 and having fun being young and living life and that’s completely not true.”
US wake-boarder Chandler has only been with Bindi for a few months but the pair is clearly smitten.
Throughout the cutthroat dancing series she posted pictures showing their burgeoning love and touching messages of thanks for his support
“Feel very blessed to have you in my life,” writes Bindi in one Instagram post.
For now, however, Bindi is just glad to back in the khakis as she comes to terms with her life-changing victory that netted her a winner’s cheque of $350,000.
“It’s unbelievable. I feel like I’ve just woken up from this incredible dream,” said Bindi.
“For me to have the family there every step of the way meant the most. Their support was what kept me going.
“For someone who is known for wildlife conservation and not dancing, it was an unbelievable journey.”
Proud mum Terri also paid tribute to her daughter who danced her way into the hearts of America – she and Robert were there every step of the way in support.
“Robert worked hard to finish school early so he could be at the shows every week,” she said.
“It’s just incredible; she got the most perfect scores in the show’s 21-year history – Bindi just nailed it.”
Bindi says she drew strength from knowing her family was there and keeping alive the memory of Steve who died from a stingray attack in 2006. Many of her crowd-pleasing routines were dedicated to her famous dad.
“I’ve always been very lucky because I have the most incredible family on planet earth,” said Bindi.
“And dad kind of lives with us no matter where we go – his strength keeps us going.”
“We want to make make sure everything he worked so hard for continues in the future, so I certainly tried to do that everyday through our dances.”
