Social media was in overdrive after the Sleepless In Seattle star appeared to introduce a performance by the cast of She Loves Me.
Most online critics seemed convinced that Meg, 54, was using her extended hiatus from the film industry to alter her look through cosmetic surgery.
Others were aghast that the topic had overshadowed the tragic events in Orlando where a madman killed 49 people in a gay night club.
Meg herself addressed the plastic surgery rumours in late 2015 in an interview with Porter magazine.
“I don’t pay a lot of attention frankly,” she said of what’s written about her.
“There’s a lot of hatred in the world today, it’s so easy to judge. Imagine being a hater, how stupid! My women friends are not sitting around talking about … well, sometimes there are conversations like that, but the people I value talk about kids growing up, what kind of world they are going into, what we are eating, what we are breathing.”
While her occasionally puffy face and inflated lips have led to speculation, Meg has always refused to confirm or deny going under the knife.
She said: “I love my age. I love my life right now. I love the person I’ve become, the one I’ve evolved into. In my life I’ve been scrappy as hell, but I feel easy with things now. I think that comes with age.”
