Six Ways To Beat Dry Skin (Dry Skin, The Essential Guide)

A hydrating gel that melts into the skin and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy? A skin drink? Sounds like heaven in this hot and humid weather! I put Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel to the test and here’s how I got on…

Scent: Delicate and fresh with clean linen vibes.

What it does: Infuses the skin with long lasting hydration that doubles moisture levels in just one hour.

Key ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid holds and imbues moisture into the skin while Olive Extract replenishes the lipid barrier to retain the hydration over 24 hours.

Why we love it: This time of year can be quite challenging for your skin. The air conditioner is up full whack, the sun is beating down outside and as hard as you might  try you just can’t seem to drink enough water – skim mocha-choca-frappuccinos are soooo much more appealing. All of these things are extremely efficient at one thing – sucking every last drop of moisture out of your skin.

Unfortunately for those of us with combo skin (apparently the most prevalent skin type), this hot weather also causes oil production to go into overdrive. Dry cheeks and shiny forehead, sound familiar anyone?

What you want is a product that will drench the skin in water-based moisture, but is also lightweight and won’t leave a greasy film. Sounds like a job for Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel!

Much like the foundation of a good education, Neutrogena has developed the Hydro Boost range around the three R’s: not Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, rather Neutrogena’s tenets of moisture are Replenish, Rebuild and Release.

Acting as chief Replenisher is the wunderkind of modern skincare, Hyaluronic Acid – a substance that can hold 1000 times its weight in water. Water is exactly what combination skin like mine is crying out for (not oil!), plumping and smoothing and relieving tightness. Rebuilding the skin is Neutrogena’s own Hydro Boost technology, which contains a myriad of carefully selected ingredients to nourish the skin including Olive Extract, which if you didn’t know is chemically very similar to skin’s own lipids. The lipid barrier is your skin’s first defense against the environment and is what keeps all that lovely hydration locked in.

And finally for Release Neutrogena have developed a Progressive Release System (or PRS for short) that ensures all of this goodness is slowly and continuously delivered  into the skin over a 24 hour period.

How to use it: Apply to clean dry skin, about a pea sized amount works best to really feel the benefits. The melting gel texture makes this a great product for facial massage so I like to take a minute to gently work it into my skin in upward strokes, increasing circulation and maximising absorption.

Price: $16.99
