First up, get your base sorted. It’s been a long time since foundation has looked caked on as formulas have been updated and changed, so it’s all about knowing the right kind of finish to look for.
“You want to look great, polished, and camera ready,” says Jennings. “It shouldn’t look like you made a lot of effort. It is ok to have wrinkles, like to have creases in your clothing so that it looks lived in.”

The boldest way to draw attention to your face is via the lips, and Spring’s the perfect time to experiment with poppy lipsticks.
“The big colour for 2016 is pink,” says Jennings. “It is going to be the new red. Look for a blue-pink that is almost the colour of a pink tulip. Sometimes you can wear it when it’s really strong (apply straight from the tube), or just put a little on your finger and then wipe it on your lips, followed by some lip conditioner.” Try M.A.C. There’s no doubt that M.A.C. coined the term “strobing” wayyyy back when they launched their signature highlighting product, Strobe Cream. This product literally flies off shelves.
“The top product we used backstage at NYFW was the strobe cream. There is no other company that has a strobe product for every skin tone, and not one product will work for everybody. There’s a girl I worked with backstage who looked like Alek Wek, and had really dark, beautiful skin. We used a red strobe cream, which surprisingly works. What makes strobing different to last year? The new kind of strobing for Spring is about the technology and the product. The products are more reflective, and more three-dimensional.”
It’s been all about matte shadows to give hooded eyelids some depth, but Romero thinks otherwise.
“Besides the complexion, you should strobe for the eyes as well,” continues Jennings. “It’s amazing what you can do by layering metallic colours. 2015 has been a massive year for brows, but they’ve come a long way since big, blocky shapes.
“With the makeup being so soft, we need some power and strength, and this can come through with the brows. We should be refining them, and giving them a bit of an extension. It’s really important in terms of framing the face. It’s no longer your ‘Instagram’ cleaned-up brow, or the gradient brow. It’s all about approachability and looking effortless.”
