Whatever bad habit you’d like to break Jo says the secret is to take small steps and follow a plan. Watch this video and check out Jo Lamble’s advice below.

Bad habits can be broken, no matter how long you’ve had them. But it’s essential that you have a good plan made up of a series of small steps. Today we are going to tackle how to stop smoking, lose 20kg and save money.

To quit smoking, it’s a good idea to talk to your GP first about nicotine patches, gum, that sort of thing. List a support of friends and family and call the quit line. You need to substitute healthy behaviours for smoking such as exercise or meditation and it’s essential that you reduce, coffee and alcohol intake if that’s normally what you do when you’re smoking and warn your smoking buddies that you might need to stay away from them for a while.

Same with losing 20 kilos. A good place to start is to seek advice from a dietician or GP and then focus on just losing half or a kilo a week. Start your exercise routine and employ some stress management techniques for how to combat comfort eating and then list a support of those friends and family again.

And finally to save money, it’s a good idea to keep a diary for a month to log everything you spend so you know exactly where your money is going. Then you create a budget and try to aim to save a small amount of money at first. Try to shop without credit cards and limit online spending and constantly remind yourself of what your incentive is. Are you saving for a house, a car or a holiday? And lastly expect set backs and plateaus. Improvement is not a straight line, it is normally more like this *demonstrates a wavy line*.
