Game Of Thrones is the most pirated show in the world already, but with the highly anticipated fifth season leaked online before the official premiere – fans have gone into a download frenzy!
As the first four episodes were leaked online the day before episode one of season five went to air in the US, torrents on popular sites like Kickass and Torrentz went into overdrive.
And although we’re in the southern hemisphere, that hasn’t stopped Australia leading the charge, along with the UK, US and Canada as top ranking pirates!
The leaks ironically come at a time when piracy laws are in the spotlight both here and overseas. Last week, a landmark decision was handed down by the Federal Court which ordered several internet service providers, including the popular iiNet, to divulge the identities of thousands of their customers who’s IP addresses were allegedly used to illegally share the 2013 film The Dallas Buyers Club with a film studio who is said to be bringing legal action against the individuals.
The cult series has not only inspired some illegal download action, but has also seen a rise in GOT baby names as parents turn to fantasy and fiction for inspiration. Bran, Sandor and Khaleesi are topping the popularity stakes and surely will only be on the increase this year!
