First Appointment with SmileDirectClub

SmileDirectClub has reengineered the process of creating orthodontics with the use of teledentistry and 3D scans. The clear aligners are suitable for crowding, gaps and bite issues or just general straightening.

Move over old school braces and multiple visits to a dentist. This is an easier and less expensive process costing around 60 per cent less than braces. You just need to attend one in-store appointment where they will ask you a few questions. They will then take scans of your upper and lower teeth and then your bite. These scans will create an amazing 3D image that you can see.

Your scans are sent off to an Australian registered dentist or orthodontist who then designs your custom treatment plan. They will oversee your program from start to finish and order your clear aligners. They will approve your treatment and monitor your progress.

The clear aligners are created with an advanced 3D printer. The only drawback is that the aligners are currently only being made in America, so there’s a bit of wait to get started. Your box will arrive in a couple of weeks containing everything you need.

There are two ways you can wear your aligners. The shortest timeframe is to wear them both day and night for 22 hours per day. This is the most popular option and takes on average 4 to 6 months. If you’d prefer, you can wear them just at night time but this will take a couple more months to see the results you are after. However, you only have to wear them for 10 hours overnight.

The appointment took around half an hour. It’s a pleasant and pain-free experience. I’m looking forward to getting started.

After your SmileShop visit, you’ll go home with a teeth whitening kit.

Your dentist or orthodontist will use a teledentistry platform to track your progress with regular virtual check-ins. At the completion, you’ll need to wear retainers to keep your new smile in place.
