  • Winter essentials

Take advantage of the fact that the end of the financial year falls right in the middle of winter and stock up on all your winter essentials for a fraction of the cost. Sweaters, knits, sweatpants – whatever is essential to your wardrobe and your personal style is what you should be buying. To really make sure you’re getting your dollar’s worth, keep an eye out for good-quality fabrics such as wool and cashmere, and avoid polyester.

  • A good pair of boots

There’s no denying that a high-quality, stylish and, most importantly, comfortable pair of boots can remain in your wardrobe for years to come. By the time the EOFY rolls around, retailers have already brought out the hottest winter boot styles, so there’s a pretty good chance they’ll be taken straight to the sale section. Now’s the time to invest in that pair you’ve been eyeing off for ages.

  • The perfect winter coat

While you’re buying your winter essentials, don’t forget to look around for that perfect winter coat. If you’re looking for one that’s made out of wool (which is what actually keeps you warm), it’s highly likely that you’re going to be faced with a price tag upwards of $200. So, buy one during the end of financial year sales and you’ll end up saving a huge chunk of cash.

  • A beautiful leather jacket

You can’t go wrong with a gorgeous leather jacket. It’s one of those transeasonal clothing pieces that you can truly rock all year long – it all depends on how you style it. If you’re looking for real leather, buy one during the EOFY sales and save some cash. And if you’d rather go cruelty-free, invest in a high-quality vegan leather jacket – the cheaper fake leather options never make it through the season.

  • Your next everyday handbag

The end of the financial year is a time when we see heaps of designer labels going on sale. Whether it’s the brand’s official store or stockists like David Jones and Myer, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to score yourself a fabulous handbag at a discounted price. Invest in something you know you’ll be able to take with you everywhere and match with every single outfit.

What NOT to buy during the end of financial year fashion sales

  • Trend pieces

This goes without saying, but don’t spend large sums of cash on trend pieces that are going to be out of style next season. It’s simply not worth it, and you especially don’t want to fall into that trap during the EOFY sales. While there’s no denying that it’s fun to play around with fashion trends, don’t let them rule your bank account.

  • Already affordable items

With the abundance of EOFY sales, it’s hard to keep track of which offers are actually worth taking advantage of. Sure, you can just go wild on a shopping spree, but if you want to make smart shopping decisions, opt for purchases that get you the most bang for your buck. Buying a top that’s originally $50 for $20? No thanks. Getting your hands on a $500 coat for just $200? Yes please!

  • Items of poor quality

Don’t just buy the first thing you see on sale. Take a look at the brand, the original price and what the item’s made of. Whether it’s a coat, a handbag, a pair of shoes or even just a T-shirt, you want to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. If you’re buying something just for the sake of it being on sale, then it’s not a financially smart decision.
