Legendary Australian designer Carla Zampatti never fails to wow us with her amazing outfits. Here, she gave The Carousel an exclusive interview about the inspiration behind her Spring Summer 2017 collection.

Speaking exclusively backstage to The Carousel, the doyenne of Aussie fashion said that she started off with the collection being designed for business and evening wear but couldn’t help making it ‘more theatrical’. The new collection saw a return to the 80’s style with exaggerated shoulders and structured looks.
“We decided to make it a bit more theatrical and fun,” Carla added. “I think women are my inspiration. They are doing so many wonderful things.”
The black theatre stage featuring the Carla’s family crest was dramatically lit by a giant antique chandelier.
The Collection for Spring / Summer 2017 harked to the 80’s with exaggerated shoulders, asymmetrical necklines and strong sharp slim silhouettes. A strong statement in red, ivory, royal, silver and Carla Zampatti’s favourite shade, black.
Fabrics crossed the gamut of metallics in oversized silver stripes or intricate laces, royal blue organza, mesh liquid knit, bold red taffeta and embroidered birds and flora on black netting.
Draping across the body and sumptuous organza bows ensured this collection was the perfect statement for power office dressing and red carpet entrance makers.
A finale tableau with 18 models positioned on multiple staircases was the perfect theatrical finish when the set was showered in gold foil.
