When I’m backstage…
We have to do our own makeup for most of our programs (at The Australian Ballet). It’s actually one of the fun parts of the job and also a ritual for us all before every show. It’s when the girls catch up in the dressing room and also mentally prep for the performance that night.
The products I use…
It’s really personal when it comes to makeup. Some of my faves are Nars, Bobbi Brown, and Illamasqua. They can hold out under the blood, sweat and tears of the stage.
When I’m on stage…
A lot gets lost under the strong lighting onstage so it’s really important to play up your features. I focus a lot on getting bigger, darker eyes, fuller lips and pinker cheeks because I’m as white as a ghost. It’s all so the audience can see our expressions even if they’re sitting in the balconies.
For my hair…
I also put my hair in a bun so our hair is off our face. I think also to stop the boys getting whipped when they partner us.
On every girl’s dressing room table you’ll find a strong hair spray so our hair doesn’t come out in the show. It can be a killer on your hair using that every night so I’ve fallen in love with Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (dry oil). I use it on the tips of my hair after washing it. It smells amazing and just brings the hydration back. It’s a wonder product!
At the end of my performance…
I love Jan Marini skincare, I’ve been using her products for years. Her face-wash and moisturizers are amazing and I pair that with my Clarisonic to get all the heavy duty makeup off.
