Now actress Gal Gadot is dusting off the red, white and blue lycra for an eagerly-anticipated reprisal, this time directed by Patty Jenkins.

Gal gave fans a tantalising glimpse of what was in store as the legendary DC comic character in Batman Vs Superman – but now it’s time to tell her story in all its epic glory!

The Wonder Woman film has caused a lot of buzz in the media and it’s not hard to see why, especially when the superhero is a badass woman who isn’t accompanied by a band of men. Girl power!

Acclaimed director Patty Jenkins is another female force to be reckoned with.

She is the sought-after writer/director best known for her debut feature film, Monster, based on the life of Aileen Wuornos (Charlize Theron), a Daytona Beach prostitute who became a serial killer.

As expected there was a lot of hype around who would be cast as the unearthly beautiful Princess of the Amazons; someone who encompasses extreme strength and surreal beauty and who would eat Xena the Warrior Princess for breakfast.

Enter Gal, an Israeli-born actress and model who not only served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years, but also was crowned Miss Israel in 2004. Badass and beautiful, no wonder she got the role.

Warner Bros’ released the first ever trailer of the film at the Wonder Woman 75th anniversary panel at San Diego’s Comic Con and it did not disappoint.

The trailer teases us with what is going to be a powerful coming-of-age story. Gil explained at Comic Con that it is “a story of a girl becoming a woman,” adding, “Diana grew up in [the isolated island of] Themyscira, where she was very safe and very protected. She thought she knew everything about the world. When she left Themyscira to go to the world of men, she realises there is so much more that she doesn’t understand.”

The trailer opens on a serenely beautiful beach when Diana (Gil) meets pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) who is the first man the Amazon princess has ever encountered.

It is through Steve that she is first introduced to a world of men she believes she can help.

We see snippets of her fighting in the midst of WW1 and there is absolutely nothing prissy or girly about these epic action packed scenes. There are glimpses of Wonder Woman’s iconic lasso and shield and a hint of romance, but what we like about this film is that the superhero is a woman and we hope that this is just the start of more female superhero films being made.

The film is scheduled to be released in June, 2017.
