Wedding Trends: The New Rules For Bridesmaids
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Hands up if you’ve been to a wedding and have witnessed the bridal party in, well, ugly bridesmaid’s dresses? Me, too.

Now that all of our hands are up, it’s also highly likely that you, yes YOU, have been asked to be in a bridal party, to which the bride has chosen the dresses which have one silhouette for all, and the colour is NOT an option. But that’s okay, because it’s not about you, it’s her day and no ‘fashion attacks’ are allowed.

Bridesmaid dresses have long been a slightly offensive, social outcast of fashion. Ever since Carrie Bradshaw in Sex in the City almost walked down the aisle to Big, with Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda by her side wearing different style and colour bridesmaid dresses, we have seen an epic shift in bridal parties to date.

The concept of Bespoke Bridesmaids was born when I myself was ecstatic to be a Maid of Honour and bridesmaid at my best friend’s wedding and we could not find a beautiful bridesmaids dress that:

A. suited each of the bridesmaids body shapes and fashion tastes

B: was a nice colour

C: didn’t break the bank account. Albeit a first world problem, the struggle to find a beautiful bridesmaids dress is real!

Bespoke Bridesmaids is not your typical bridesmaid dress website. We don’t create or carry ‘unattractive’, ‘expensive’ or ‘done-to-death’ bridesmaid’s dresses that will make the bride stand out for the wrong reasons.

In fact, similar to that of the Shoes of Prey concept for shoes, and Mon Purse for bags, ladies are able to go online and choose a dress from our boutique OR ‘design their own dresses’. Customers choose from a range of tops, skirts, colours, embellishments and sizes and the dress gets straight to their door. Gone are the days where the bridesmaids dress is not flattering or ugly, we are the brand for modern brides who understand the better her bridesmaids look, the better the bride looks.

Bespoke Bridesmaids launch campaign is photographed by the incredibly talented Amberley Valentine, who has shot for top publications around the world, hair and makeup by Kat O’Hara with our beautiful models Joanne McKay and Bridie Holiday.

Inspired by my experiences as a bridesmaid and PR Director in the Fashion Industry for over ten years, Bespoke Bridesmaids is the ultimate bridesmaid destination I felt the wedding industry desperately needed.

Gone are the days of ‘matchy – matchy’, traditional, not flattering, one style only bridesmaid’s dresses. Bespoke Bridesmaids discuss the ‘new’ rules for bridesmaids:

It is your wedding and you can make of it what you want.

–   Whether the wedding is a 300 person, traditional church ceremony or an intimate Moroccan inspired picnic in the park. All the traditional ‘rules’ can be broken.

White Is The New Bridesmaids Colour

You heard us, white, ivory, cream – whichever way you want to spin it, this shade is our favourite and it’s here to stay. Thank Kate Middleton, Solange and Kim K for that one.

You Can Choose Your Own Dress

It is becoming more common that a bride gives the bridesmaid a budget (or even paid for by yourself) and the bridesmaid heads out on the hunt to find a dress of her choice. Step away from the bright kaftans…

Adhesive bras and undergarment options are more impressive than they have ever been.

Got your eye on that backless dress? Don’t be scared of adhesive undergarments, their breast support has improved in leaps and bounds over the last few years and there are endless options to choose from. Go on, just do it, we know you will love it.

The Better The Bridesmaid Looks, The Better The Bride Looks

The job of the bridesmaid is no longer to make the bride feel more beautiful by wearing an ugly dress. The better the bridesmaid looks, the better the bride looks, so throw away that chartreuse colour chart, hold the bride’s train with confidence, and make it the most special day she’s had yet!
