Julie Paterson’s new range of hand printed upholstery linens for her company ClothFabric, reminds me of summer.
Julie has been a big sustainability supporter for nearly 20 years and has developed many stunning ranges of soft furnishings designed and made here in Australia using sustainable, natural materials with low impact processes.
Her latest collection, Bloom, is available in three printed designs: Gum Blossom, Pod and Standard Stripe in a new palette of bright and saturated colours like Golden yellow, hot pink and bright orange. Printed by hand on heavy weight linen, they’re great for upholstery.

The Gum Blossom print was inspired from a trip to San Francisco last year. ‘I saw these flaming red West Australian natives blooming spectacularly over there and did some drawings and developed the print from that moment.’ Says Julie.
‘Pod design came about from a more local source – the seed pod of the callistemon (bottle brush) growing near my studio – I had designed this one a while back but it never had a partner till now.’

This is the first range to spring from the collaboration between Cloth and Ascraft. On the collaboration, Julie muses ‘Change is good. Working together and getting the perspective from other people helps freshen things up sometimes.’
About Linen
Linen is grown with little or no chemical fertilizer. As all parts of the plant can be used after harvesting to create multiple by-products, nothing is wasted. Linen is also cool and breathable, making it a great choice for summer.
